Help Your Child Land a Summer Job

If you agree with our previous post that it’s important for your kids to learn the value of money, you might want to encourage him about getting asummer job. If it’s your kid’s first time to apply for a summer job, he’ll definitely need your help. Give him clues on how to get hired. Everyone can use the extra cash.
Help your kid create a resume. It all starts with a resume — a concise text structure of your kid’s qualifications to let the employer know why your kid is an asset. Help your kid determine his assets and recall past achievements. There are a lot of resume formats you can download from the internet.

Help your kid prepare for the interview. It’s important that your kid is confident during the interview. Some applications fail because of failed interviews. Your kid should be able to reflect what’s written on the resume and should be able to possess good communication skills. You can help your kid practice by pretending to be the interviewer. Ask him questions which are usually asked during interviews. Teach him how to be articulate when talking about himself.
Let your networks work. Ask your friends if they know of any business establishments in the neighborhood which are in need of part-timers. For your kid’s first attempt at a job, you’d feel better if he works somewhere near your house.
Motivate your child by suggesting how rewarding it feels to earn your own money and tell him that he can use his savings any way he wants to. Now how can any kid resist that offer?
