How to Control Your Anger

We’ve all felt anger, and everyone will agree that it’s normal to feel angry sometimes. Anger is a very powerful emotion — powerful enough to cause damage in your relationships. When anger spins out of control, a person can become aggressive and irrational making him do things — most of which, he will most definitely regret when the emotion passes. Learn to control your anger so there’s no need to regret anything.
The easiest technique is relaxation. This is easy to do. As soon as you feel anger rushing, just stop and force yourself to calm down. Have at least 5 deep breaths and tell yourself to “take it easy”. To master relaxation techniques, enroll in yoga and meditation classes. Counting from one to ten also works. Just focus on counting more than anything else. Else, if you are really prone to outbursts, take a walk and do something else for the time being. Don’t lose your sense of logic whatever happens. When you’re angry, everything happens so fast that you barely realize that you’re cursing everyone, maybe even those who have nothing to do with your rage. You might also become violent and start hurting people. Do not make a habit out of over-reacting every time you’re angry. It’s understandable why you’re disappointed but you can always act accordingly without being rash. You’re more likely to freak out if you don’t know the details of what made you angry. Talk with the person so you can think of expedient solutions.
Get counseling. An anger management therapist can help you manage your anger so you won’t have to flare up and lose your cool. You will learn new techniques that will really help you become more peaceful.
It is important to know that on top of everyone, the person who’s most damaged by anger is yourself. Uncontrolled anger will make you lose your most treasured relationships and also your reputation. You can’t control the things that can irk you, but you can always refuse to deal with it. Who needs extra stress, anyway?
