I'm going to smash your car up...and kill you

I'm going to smash your
car up...and kill you
By Phil Taylor, Associate Editor
GEORGE Best's long-suffering wife Alex revealed last night how the fallen football idol threatened to MURDER her in a drunken rage.
The Manchester United legend bombarded Alex with THIRTY chilling phone calls and warned her: "If you're not home in the next 10 minutes I'm going to smash up your car...I'm going to kill you, you f***ing bitch."
Terrified Alex returned home from a magazine interview at 9.30pm to find her £700,000 house in Lower Kingswood, Surrey, had been trashed with a CD player smashed on the floor. After heaping a torrent of abuse on his wife boozy George fled in a taxi and Alex went to bed in tears.
But when she got up the following morning, she discovered to her horror that Best had carried out his first threat—hurling a stone slab through the rear window of her £53,000 Mercedes 4x4 and kicking in door panels. The damage bill is over £5,000.
Horrified at what might happen next Alex called in the police.
And last night her lawyer Henri Brandman told us: "Alex has reported George's death threat to the police. She has given a full statement and they are in possession of all the menacing messages George left, including one threatening to smash up her car and another threatening to kill her."
Sobbing Alex, 31, told a friend: "I don't feel safe and have changed the locks on the house.
Cheated
"I can't take the risk of letting him through the door again.
"George is drinking day and night and is totally uncontrollable. I don't know what he's going to do next.
"I've done everything I can to help George and was willing to forgive him about all the women he cheated on me with.
"But now he has smashed up my car and threatened to kill me— just for being a few hours late home.
"I can't take any more. I don't know what he is going to do next."
Tuesday's drama began at 11.30am when Alex left George, clutching a bottle of wine, at home and travelled to London for an interview with a journalist from a men's magazine.
The lunchtime meeting went on longer than planned and by the time Alex was driven home, at about 9pm, 57-year-old George had plagued her mobile phone with his string of threatening calls.
Last night Alex's close friend Jane Day, 39, from Wimbledon, south-west London, told us: "She wants the police to be in no doubt about the danger she could be in.
"George has always had a violent streak with drink. Once he even hacked her hair off with scissors when he was drunk.
"But now his drinking is so bad he's terrorising her.
"He didn't just smash her car up, he threatened to smash Alex up and do her in. I've heard those messages and they're really nasty.
"And for what? Because she was a few hours late home.
"It's sickening after all she's done for him despite his drinking and cheating."
Jane also revealed that Best recently kidnapped Alex's pet dog Red while he was drunk.
"She came home to find he'd taken her mobile phone and the red setter," said Jane.
"He deleted all her contact numbers and messages and didn't give the dog back until the next day. It sounds stupid but it all added to Alex's stress. She's a bag of nerves because of him and has lost so much weight she is just skin and bone. Best should be locked up for what he's put her through."
The day after George was reported to the law by Alex he was making his own complaints to detectives—over being fleeced of £2,000 by two tarts.
Snaps
The alcoholic womaniser booked into London's £250-a-night Paragon hotel with the girls.
There is no suggestion George knew they were on the game. But after stripping and jumping into bed with one he told the other to get some cash from his pocket and buy a camera for some saucy snaps. Later he discovered she'd vanished with ALL his money.
Now George has gone back to his blonde mistress Gina DeVivo, 33, who recently announced she'd lost the unborn baby she said she was having by him.
Ironically the top-of-the-range Mercedes that George laid into was a gift from him to Alex—to say sorry for his bad behaviour in July after a week-long drinking binge in which he attacked a News of the World photographer.
He joked about the present at the time, saying: "An expensive drink, wasn't it?"
But it proved no joke for Alex. A month later we caught George sneaking off for secret dates with crop-haired blonde Paula Shapland.
Then in September we revealed his passionate affair with Gina DeVivo. And despite having new anti-alcohol implants sewn into his body, the troubled star just carried on supping.
Last night Alex's worried pal Jane told us: "She and George are at the point of no return.
"As a caring, loyal, loving wife Alex has done everything possible to try to save their marriage, hoping that he'd kick the drink and it would somehow sort itself out.
"But now she knows it's just impossible for them to have a relationship.
"She's really down at the moment. And, although it's George who's living on borrowed time after his liver transplant, Alex is convinced she'll probably die first, from problems caused by all the stress he's put her under.
"Meanwhile he'll be sitting at a bar happily boozing."
