ANGEL UNCOVERED:
Fag off!
By Dominic Herbert & Phil Taylor
HEARTBROKEN Kyle Johnson's love for Charlotte Church was blown apart by a devastating series of drunken, screaming rows with the wild-child singer.
The 20-year-old hotel worker told how their 14-month relationship exploded into booze-fuelled bust-ups after the New Year.
"I know Charlotte has told everyone she dumped me because she felt the relationship had run its course—but how come everything was fine until Christmas?" said Kyle.
"We'd talked about getting married and had even found a brilliant £500,000 home that Charlotte fell in love with. Then it all turned pear-shaped. We'd always had rows—but they became more and more hellish.
"If you think Charlotte has a powerful singing voice you should hear her scream. It's even louder when she's rowing.
"She is strong and won't back down. She would scare some people. She yelled at me at full volume and I would end up trying to shout over her. Neither of us could admit we were wrong."
The fights were mainly sparked by the multi-millionaire beauty's renowned binge drinking and smoking. Kyle admits he couldn't deal with her cigarette habit.
"When we first met she was on 15 a day. I didn't like it and kept telling her, ‘It doesn't look sexy, it makes you smelly and the flat stinks. And it could damage your voice'," said Kyle.
"I went on about it so much she cut down to one a day. She told me, ‘I know it's bad for me but I need to smoke to relax. I need that one fag.'
"But whenever she went out boozing she'd keep lighting up and I'd get annoyed. I'd tell her to stop. But when Charlotte has had a drink she can't keep it buttoned and she'd have a go back."
Bitch
Charlotte's bawling, drunken behaviour in Cardiff has led to cat-fights with jealous girls and screaming street rows—and Kyle reckons one day she could end up badly hurt.
"She tries to act like a normal girl and get drunk with her old school mates but she forgets who she is and puts herself in danger," he said.
"Some of the local girls are really jealous of her success. I have heard them scream "stuck-up bitch" at her, even though she was going out with a council estate boy like me.
"She could do with a team of minders when she's out because she won't walk away from a fight. I've had to drag her away from them."
One night last summer her wildness landed Kyle in a police cell. Breaking his silence over the incident, six-footer Kyle revealed: "We had been out all day drinking at a friend's baby's christening. I wanted to go home and she wanted to go on to a club.
"We started arguing about it in the street at midnight. It soon turned into a blazing row and a copper came over.
"He saw it was Charlotte Church and obviously reckoned he'd play the knight in shining armour and sort me out.
"I swore at him to leave us alone and he arrested me. I was out of order but I didn't deserve to be locked up. I was left in a freezing police cell until 6am when they finally let me go.
"When I got home Charlotte acted as if nothing had happened and just said, ‘Give us a kiss!' But next day the story was splashed all over the national papers and I was painted as the bad boy.
"That happened all through our relationship. Most people on a council estate know how to look after themselves but I'm not a troublemaker.
"I am a decent bloke and I went out of my way to protect Charlotte. I was her rock, and happy to live in her shadow to help her." But the growing rows took their toll on Kyle. "I neglected her a bit, I wasn't telling her I loved her as much as I should have, I wasn't as affectionate as I used to be.
"But we were still planning a future together and I hoped everything could be happy like it was before," said Kyle.
"What didn't help was that Charlotte needed constant reassurance about us. She would tell me, ‘I love you more than anything in the world. I feel protected whenever you are with me but I feel I love you more than you love me'."
The relationship finally hit the rocks after Kyle asked for a heart-to-heart with Charlotte at their flat. The singer caused an explosive row by turning up an hour and a half late. "When she came in at midnight I hit the roof and stormed off to bed without sorting anything out.
"The next morning we said we would meet again at six. I was madly in love with Charlotte and wanted to end the rows and get back to the good times.
Stressed
"She turned up on time but just dumped me on the spot. She told me, ‘I can't keep arguing with you and getting stressed out. I need a break.'
"She said she wanted more time with her family and friends and was going to stay at her mum's. She was in tears and I broke down with her. I was gutted. I've wept buckets ever since."
Kyle had planned a romantic Valentine's Day dinner with Charlotte at the flat—but spent the day moving out. On Thursday Charlotte destroyed any hopes of saving their relationship.
"She rang me to ask where I was," he said. "But then she told me she just wanted to drop off my last belongings I had left in her flat, including my passport, shorts and vests.
"I said to her, ‘Is there any way we can sort things out?' And she said, ‘I don't think so.' Then she got a bit upset and we said our goodbyes.
"Now I'm trying to get along without her—and it's hard. I still love her to bits. If she called me right now and said she wanted me back I'd be the happiest man alive."
