New Pictures Pregnant Meghan Markle is using vegan paint to decorate her ‘gender-free’ nursery at new home Frogmore Cottage

PREGNANT Meghan Markle is using vegan paint infused with eucalyptus and rosemary oils – said to enhance memory and boost the immune system – to decorate her “gender-free” nursery at Frogmore Cottage, we can reveal.

The Duchess of Sussex, who is due to have her first child with Prince Harry in April, follows a strict vegan diet during the week and has even convinced her husband to cut back on meat in recent months.

Meghan, 37, is also installing childproof windows and a £50,000 eco boiler as part of the £3million renovations to the Grade II listed property in the Queen’s Windsor estate, according to our source.

She has enlisted the help of top design director Vicky Charles – who’s responsible for the pristine interiors at fashionable members club Soho Farmhouse, where the mum-to-be held her three-day hen do.

Meghan’s thought to have opted for a monochrome palette of whites and greys – but it’s not just the décor which will be achingly on-trend, as she’s keen to make sure no animals were harmed in the making of the Royal baby’s nursery.

But isn’t ALL house paint vegan?

Actually, no, many household paints use milk or beeswax as a binder, and they are often tested on animals before being declared safe for human homes.

But there won’t be any bog standard paint in the Baby of Sussex’s nursery, as Meghan has opted for a vegan, odourless, non-toxic, eco paint by the Organic and Natural Paint Co.

Our source reveals: “Meghan has been looking long and hard at paints for the Sussex nursery.

“Rather than opt for fashionable Farrow and Ball paint in favoured shades such as Wevet, Peignoir and Pavilion Grey and Salmon, the Sussexes are much in favour of The Organic & Natural Paint Co’s Auro range for the nursery.”

Dad-of-two Chris Ridley set up the Norfolk-based brand in 2012, in reaction to genetic breathing issues in his own family.

The company has a page dedicated to nurseries and babies’ homes in general, where he warns of the “toxic” chemicals he says are used in some other brands.

His comments include: “Please don’t paint toxic paints when pregnant!

“I hear all the time about pregnant women redecorating with your big brand toxic paints, just weeks before the baby is due.

“PLEASE don’t do this! Not only will you be inhaling all the nasties in a very critical part of your pregnancy, but these paints will the leach chemicals into the air for months (even years) after drying, and continuing to fill your rooms with toxins.”

Their eco paints are all baby and pet safe, cruelty free, odourless, non-toxic, as well as being shellac, lead, cadmium and arsenic free.

The eco boiler unit will ensure Meghan and Harry’s staff and security have instant hot water 24 hours-a-day, with our insider adding: “Capacity needs to be increased.”

Meanwhile, the cottage’s windows will all be made childproof and electric sockets fitted with safety covers.

Kensington Palace declined to comment.
