LEAVING a soap can be hazardous to your appearance – you might have a stranger’s face on your return.
We told yesterday how EastEnders character Ben Mitchell is set to come back to Walford.

And along with Ben’s dramatic new storyline comes an unfamiliar “boat-race” as Max Bowden, 24, becomes the SIXTH actor to play him.
Getting a new face is common in soapland – funny that the rest of the cast never notice, though.
Emma Pietras looks at others who have regenerated almost as often as Doctor Who, and one who will forever stay the same.
Eastenders
Louise Mitchell

Since the troubled teen’s explosive comeback early in 2016, Louise has blackmailed Abi Branning, helped dad Phil battle booze, been bullied, and survived being set alight at her school prom.
Steven Beale

In and out of Walford like a yo-yo. He wrote poison pen letters, lied about a brain tumour, held stepdad Ian hostage and shot stepmum Jane.
Written out in 2017. But will he be back with yet another new face?
Martin Fowler

In the very first ’Enders episode in 1985 Arthur and Pauline Fowler learned they were expecting a third child – Martin.
Now a dad himself, he has survived a bus crash, ended up in the nick, discovered his missus cheated on him and that his mate fathered her son.
Emmerdale
Robert Sugden

The character has been in the soap since a baby.
In his present incarnation, Robert has survived being shot, been involved in covering up a manslaughter, and is in a long-term gay relationship.
Victoria Barton (nee Sugden)

In the soap since a baby, Victoria’s face may have changed but not the drama.
She was a wild teen, nearly drowned, was bullied, went off the rails and mowed down vicar Ashley.
Coronation Street
Tracy Barlow

Corrie fans know trouble-maker Tracy is two-faced, but the character has actually had FOUR faces.
Deirdre’s girl disappeared from the age of six until her early teens – apparently she was “playing tapes upstairs”.
Tracy has been involved in drugs, feuds, affairs and famously got away with murdering lover Charlie Stubbs.
Daniel Osbourne

Ken Barlow’s youngest lad was two when he left the Cobbles with hairdresser mum Denise.
Ten years later he was back, briefly, as a young heavy metal fan.
Now back to bolster the Barlow clan, Daniel has pushed Ken down stairs and wed cancer sufferer Sinead, who has had a premature baby.
Peter Barlow

Ken’s sailor son made his Cobbles debut over five decades ago and has been played by SEVEN actors (also by Chris Dormer, 1970–1971, and Mark Duncan, 1971).
Peter’s storylines have included bigamy, alcoholism, a custody battle, doomed love affairs and being framed for the murder of his lover Tina.
