SUSANNA Reid has joked she’s “desperate for a drink” at tonight’s National Television Awards after quitting alcohol.

The 48-year-old gave up booze in September last year as part of a new healthy lifestyle.

While she allowed herself a glass of wine with Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan in November, Susanna said she was ready for a Margarita cocktail tonight.

Susanna had previously promised she would fall off the wagon again if Good Morning Britain won a National Television Award at tonight’s ceremony at London’s O2 Arena.

And on today’s show, she made the pledge again and joked: “I’m desperate for a drink, I could not be more desperate for a drink.”

Addressing viewers she added: “Give me an excuse to go out and have a drink.”

The ITV show has been nominated in the Daytime category again, alongside Loose Women, This Morning, The Jeremy Kyle Show and Sunday Brunch.

Piers, 53, added that they deserved to win over This Morning, who have taken the title on a number of previous occasions.

He explained: “Tell me one thing they’ve done this year? Everyone has been talking about us all year, why would you give it to them?”

Charlotte Hawkins then asked Susanna what she would like her drink to be if they won.

She replied: “That’s a very good question…I think I’d like a Margarita.

“If someone could prepare a nice, fresh lime Margarita.”

She added at her co-hosts expense: “And a Greggs vegan sausage roll for my TV husband.”

The National Television Awards airs tonight at 7.30pm on ITV.
