We're just 48 hours away from D-Day. That's Divorce Day, if you didn't know, and this Tuesday will see lawyers across the country bombarded with thousands of warring couples desperate to end their marriage.
For the first time in a decade, experts are predicting an increase in the number of people wanting to split - reversing a run of declining divorce statistics.
"Because of the recession, we're anticipating the number of couples wanting to divorce to rise by at least two per cent over the next 12 months," says Mark Keenan, MD of Divorce-online.co.uk.
With Christmas pushing love to the limit and relationships being crunched by money worries, it seems it's going to be us girls taking the lead in 2017.
"Two-thirds of divorce petitions are filed by women," Keenan explains. "By the time the relationship's fallen apart, it's women who want to get organised and get the divorce sorted out quickly."
But while you might be craving nothing more than a decree nisi as this year's Valentine's gift, there's more than irreconcilable differences and custody battles to consider when it comes to divorce. For some couples, splitting up really is the best option, for them and their kids. For others, far from being a quick fix to an ailing marriage, it spells the beginning of an emotionally and financially draining situation, which may not even be the right decision in the long run.
With divorce now big business, from flashy parties to break-up conventions and even special cakes, it seems everyone's looking to cash in on the death of a marriage. But is divorce right for you? Is your marriage in terminal decline? Or just in need of some TLC?
We've spoken to the women who've loved, lost and learned a lot. So, if it looks like you might be heading in to battle on D-Day, read on to see how you can make it as painless as possible.
