The 53-year-old host returned to the show today and told viewers that his co-presenter had tried to bribe him into going easy on her, after The Sun revealed the 47-year-old has been secretly dating Crystal Palace football club chairman Steve Parish — who’s worth £45m.
“It turns out it was a bribe, she was literally bribing me to not be too mean to her. So, anything that you want to share with the group?”
Charlotte Hakwins got to the point and said: “We’re very pleased for you Susanna!” as Piers added: “Honestly couldn’t be happier for you.”
But Susanna asked Piers: “Are you jealous?”
However, the host conceded that Steve is a great catch even by his high standards – before he slipped in a crude joke at Susanna’s expense.
He said: “He is good looking very rich very successful the only thing about being usurped by a fine specimen like that is that Cyrstal Palace are terrible.
“Even you’ve scored more than them!”
Divorced Steve, 53, has two grown-up daughters and is worth an estimated £45million.
A friend said: “Susanna and Steve are exclusively dating. It’s extremely early days but they’re having a lot of fun. They have known each other for several years through their connections to Palace.
“Over the summer they started hanging out more and fell for each other. They have a real chemistry, a wicked sense of humour and both are real family people. Plus, of course, they share a love of the Eagles.”
Last month, they were pictured at a charity performance of hit musical Hamilton, where they were joined by Prince Harry and wife Meghan.
