Australian Actor Jason Stojanovski Looking to Conquer U.S

 Jason Stojanovski is not a household name in the United States, but he hopes to be one day. The Australian born actor has appeared in several films Down Under including Subterano, Suburban Mayhem and Next Door to the Velinsky's. He has also been in several movies in the States including The Killing Hour, The Seed and Renaissance of the Dead. And while the actor initially got into show business against his will, he has high hopes for bigger and better things to come.

Jason Stojanovski Began Acting Against His Will

Stojanovski started acting when he was 12 years old, after his brother won a competition. The prize was acting lessons, which his sibling refused to attend, but Stojanovski's mother had other plans. In a recent exclusive interview he recalled, "My mother literally dragged me against my will to the class instead of letting them go to waste."

Three years later he got his first professional acting gig as a wise, young street kid in Subterano. He stated, "This was, at the time, Australia’s highest budget film ever made. I was one of the leads in an all-star cast which gave me the opportunity to learn from some of Australia’s best."

Jason Stojanovski Brought His Talents to the U.S.

He took all that he picked up on that set and brought it to the U.S. when he was cast in The Killing Hour, a horror movie about a group of a actors systematically being knocked off on the set. Once again, luck played a part in his career. He was in Los Angeles networking and waiting for his work visa to be approved when the director of The Killing Hour expressed interest in seeing him for one of the leads in the film.

He noted, "I went and auditioned for her. I guess I made a good impression because she was so excited about me being a part of the film that she postponed the start date. We started shooting a few weeks after my visa was approved."

Stojanovski talked about how he perfected his American accent. "Practice. It did come naturally to an extent. We are surrounded by American pop culture in Australia. You turn on the radio or the TV and its really easy to find a reference point if you’re trying to work on something."

 The young actor hopes to do more acting in the States, "I’ve never felt more ready to expand my career into the USA. As an actor I crave the work… so what better place is there to indulge myself?"

Jason Stojanovski Is Currently Filming Rules of the Game

But for now Stojanovski continues to make movies in Australia. Currently he is shooting Rules of the Game. He described the plot, "It's the story of a broken detective stopping at nothing to hunt down and arrest a sociopathic killer who has engaged our detective in a twisted game of killing. The killer is basing his choices of victim and locations based on the rules of the game of chess. My character is the loving and supportive boyfriend of the lead female detective."

Jason Stojanovski Sees His Cerebral Palsy as an Advantage

The actor lives with a mild form of cerebral palsy but says he finds his condition to have a positive impact on his career. He pointed out, "Actors are always trying new things in the search to be unique… I don’t need to try, I just have to walk into the room."

He professed that many directors see his “disability” as an advantage. He said, "[They see it] as a way to add another layer or more depth to the character they are trying to cast. There have been a number of occasions where scripts have been amended and sometimes even re-written in order to justify it within the story."

Stojanovski overcame some difficult times when he was young, before he discovered acting. But from this, he feels he gained strength and a greater understanding of himself. "[It] makes it much easier to emotionally connect to and understand the characters I need to play as an actor."
