Want to Start a Telemarketing Career?

Telemarketing is one of the most popular and sought after jobs right now. If you think at it as just making phone calls, you might be led into thinking that it’s an easy job. But it’s far from that. If you’re planning to take on a telemarketing career, here are a few things you should know.
Memorize the script. When you’re faced with a sales quota and you have no idea how to go about it, just remember, all you need to know is right there on the script. It may not be everything, but it’s definitely where everything starts for you. Learn the script.
Love the script. Selling something is hard on a face-to-face basis. So think how much harder it is to sell something over the phone, when people don’t wanna be disturbed while watching TV or reading the newspaper. Before you make that phone call, make sure you know what you’re going to say.
When do you deviate from the script? The script is not your limit. The script is merely a beginning of your profit-making career. As you become better at your job, you will find yourself to deviate from the original script. Is this fine? Yes, as long as you’re sure that you’re still trying to make a sale. You might even find yourself unbelievably comfortable in sales talk. Just go with it. In no time, you’ll sound like a pro!
Easy on the white lies. There are times when you have to make up some fantastic impromptu little white lie, but don’t get the hang of it. You might think you’ve become a good liar but some people will see through your make-believes if you go too far. Here’s an advice. Lie only when you really have to and not when you just want to be funny or charming. It’d be too embarrassing if your potential client knows you’re pulling his leg. Besides, your fancy claims might get you in the wrong end of a lawsuit.
Learn how to accept the NOs. You’ll get used to people who have no time listening to you and some of them won’t even be polite to shut you up. But the most important thing is to take it as it is. The same career mantra applies: it’s nothing personal, it’s just business.
