Kirsty Gallacher looking swell

TV stunners shows off bikini-babe bod in the Caribbean

JAWS dropped when Kirsty Gallacher larked about on a Caribbean beach in a teeny blue bikini this week.
The TV babe showed off an ultra-toned body despite giving birth to her baby boy, Jude Sidney, only five months ago.

Scottish Kirsty, 32, showed she was game for a laugh as she kicked a football around with her fiance, Paul Sampson, 32.
But the TV presenter's super sports knowledge couldn't stop her taking a tumble as she tried to score against her rugby player lover.
SLIP UP: Kirsty takes a tumble

Kirsty's body has bounced back in record-breaking time since Jude was born in January.
An onlooker said: "Kirsty looked amazing. There wasn't a single man on that beach who could take their eyes off her."
THE BEAUTIFUL GAME: Kirsty saves a goal
"It's even more impressive considering she gave birth this year, most women never look that good but especially so soon after pregnancy."
The sexy star has spoken openly about her dislike of the way magazines airbrush pictures of celebrities. Earlier this month, she bravely posed for a cover shoot without any retouching.
But we're hardly surprised - this bonnie lass needs no help in that department, twenty-year-old girls would be over the moon for a figure like this.

Tybee Island-the Bbest kept secret in Georgia

I vaguely knew there were barrier islands off the coast of Georgia and the Carolinas, but for years our family beach vacations had been to Pensacola, Florida where my grandmother lived. We rented a beach house out on Santa Rosa Island and enjoyed the beautiful white sand of the Florida Panhandle.

But when we heard from a friend that Tybee Island, Georgia was beautiful, secluded, and only a 10-hour drive from Lexington, Kentucky, where we live, we decided to give it a try. I was immediately sold when I discovered online that beach houses on Tybee rent for roughly half of what we had been paying in Pensacola. We got a beautiful 3-bedroom, 2 ½ half bath house with a large screened porch and hot tub which had an easy walk to the beach for only $2100 total. There’s a variety of accommodations on Tybee and plenty of realtors, but we used Oceanfront Cottage Rentals and were very pleased with their professionalism – they even offered vacation insurance.

You have to drive through Savannah, Georgia to get to Tybee Island and what a beautiful example of a Southern city it is! The quiet streets are shaded by huge live oak trees adorned with slightly spooky Spanish moss and the gorgeous, huge, historic homes are well-maintained with fabulous gardens. Tybee Island is actually nicknamed “Savannah’s Beach” because it’s only about 15 minutes away from Savannah; it’s very easy to take a day off from the beach and spend some time in Savannah, which we did.

Checking out the Tybee Island beach.
We passed through Savannah and headed through the lush green marshes that bring the island of Tybee. We soon pulled up to our beautiful beach home for the week. Is there anything quite as wonderful as a house at the beach? We were soon unpacking our cars and lugging coolers, luggage and toys for my grandson in to our house, which was located on the North side of the island. I recommend this side of Tybee Island for families with children. The South side is much busier with a pier, shops and restaurants and the water is also much rougher. However, the  South side is definitely more convenient for activities, so your choice of accommodations just depends on your vacation preferences.

We couldn’t wait to see the beach, so we immediately headed across the wooden sidewalk which became a bridge over a quiet, scenic fresh water lagoon with clear green water. As we neared the lagoon, we were puzzled by all the tiny black shapes poking up out of the water and couldn’t imagine what they were. When we got closer, we realized they were the heads of turtles that were lazily floating on the clear, green water – hundreds of them! We found over time that they were pretty laid back, until someone appeared on the bridge with bread: you wouldn’t believe how fast those turtles can move!

Feeding the turtles.
We saved our leftover crusts, crackers and chips to always have a snack for them since my grandson was fascinated by the little green reptiles.

Finally, we made it to the beach and were pleased with the soft, light tan sand, the calm green water and the absolute privacy of the area. Only those people staying in the immediate neighborhood were allowed access to this beach area and it stayed very quiet all week with mostly families and children playing in the water. The water was alive with sea life and we spent part of every day watching the dolphins gamboling in the water just off the beach. The shrimp boats cruised by every day on their way back to the dock, and the dolphins and hundreds of sea birds followed in their wake, snatching up the leftovers from the shrimping nets that were dragging in the water to be cleaned.

With four women in our group and one little boy, we decided this was the perfect time to not cook dinner at all – so we ate out every night! We fixed breakfast at the house, took sandwiches and drinks in a cooler to the beach (a cooler on wheels and a small wagon came in very handy) and stuffed ourselves with delicious, local seafood and scrumptious desserts every night.

Fabulous seafood everywhere on Tybee Island!
If you liked boiled seafood with a spicy Cajun kick, I can highly recommend “The Crab Shack”, a rustic seafood restaurant with a huge, wooden deck perched by one of the lagoons with a nice breeze off the water, helped by the many overhead fans.  Kids will love feeding the resident (small)  captive alligators with special alligator food you can buy from your waiter or waitress. If you like your seafood fried, try the “North Beach Grill”, which has great live music nightly (the steel drums were especially enjoyed by our group) – or “AJ’s Dockside Restaurant”. “Spanky’s Beachside Seafood Galley and Saloon” is located right by the Tybee Island pier and is a great place to have yet another fried seafood dinner, then take a stroll out on the pier to see how the fishermen are doing. Go early so you can get ice cream and shop in some of the little shops because they close early on Tybee.

Tybee Island has an historic lighthouse with tours, as well as a museum and restored lighthouse keeper’s cottage. It was well worth the very reasonable price of $8.00 – seniors are only $6.00 and kids 5 and under are free.  The lighthouse and the surrounding buildings are perfectly restored and it’s fascinating to view a completely different way of life. Prepare yourself for the 178 stairs to the top, though! Take in the beautiful view of Tybee Island from the top as you take a breather. There’s a nice little gift shop where you can pick up some souvenirs and cool off in the air-conditioning after that climb.

Finding a sand dollar.
One of the best things we did was take a nature tour of the island with Sundial Charters, which offers guided boat tours of the area. We cruised over to Little Tybee Island in a small boat just for the five of us and our captain, seeing birds and dolphins on the way and then collected sand dollars on the beach. Little Tybee Island is a designated nature preserve and is only accessible by boat; so it was quiet, peaceful and lovely as we strolled along the deserted beach.

We were the only people on the lovely, deserted Little Tybee Island beach and my grandson was thrilled with the perfect sand dollars scattered in the wet sand.

Our week on Tybee Island was a wonderful respite from our hectic lives and the easy, laid-back vibe of the island helped immensely with relaxation. We are counting the days until our next visit to this beautiful little island!

The five ws of taking the perfect beach vacation

I’m writing this article in a luxurious, five bedroom beach house on Tybee Island courtesy of Tybee Joy Vacation Rentals called Quit Yer Crabbin’ that is just a couple blocks from the beach and is so huge and elegant, we could live here forever. The two of us are rattling around in this huge house, never even using the expansive upstairs.

We are here to cover the annual Tybee Island Pirate Fest and we could not be in a better or more comfortable location. On the other hand, the last time we were in Tybee, we stayed in a tiny, circa 1920s cottage called Old Love on Tybee Island, Georgia courtesy of Mermaid Cottages that was perfectly darling . The hot pink exterior was complemented by the bright turquoise and white interior where lazily turning ceiling fans evoked that special, incomparable beach mood. We were 99 steps from the beach. I love being 99 steps from the beach.

We have stayed in fabulous, sprawling, luxury hotels in Hawaii — hotels that were mere steps from an incredible beach and offered amenities that would boggle your mind. Then we’ve stayed in places like these wonderful beach houses. We enjoyed both vacations equally. There is a beach vacation out there for everyone. And everyone needs a beach vacation. The sun, the sand, the smell of the air, the taste

Sea turtle on a beach in Maui
of fresh seafood just pulled out of the water, kids building sandcastles – yes, everyone needs a beach vacation.

Now, just how do you get one?

Who? First, think about who is going on the beach vacation. You might think that the bigger the family, the more expensive the vacation. But that isn’t necessarily true. If you have a big family, maybe you can share the cost of

a beach house. We recently stayed at the Summerwind Resort in Navarre Beach, Florida, thanks to Gulf Blue Vacations, which offers tons of gorgeous condos and houses to rent in the area.  The two of us (my husband and I) found ourselves in a large, three-bedroom condo that could have easily accommodated several more people. Split the cost of a gorgeous, beachfront condo or house, buy some groceries to make your own meals, and you have a pretty reasonable price for a beach vacation.

The pool at Perdido Beach Resort in Gulf Shores, Alabama
What? If you have small kids in your group, they are honestly very happy playing on the beach for hours. There is no need to stress yourself out planning an elaborate vacation with tons of expensive things for them to do. Choose a place like Tybee Island or Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, Alabama, where we recently stayed at the beautiful Perdido Beach Resort. Right on the beach, with a beautiful pool and several restaurants, it’s a perfect location with great prices. If you have a group of people going who want more activities, just choose a different area with more activities, like Destin, Florida. We’ve stayed several times at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. A huge resort area, the Sandestin offers everything from lovely hotel rooms to huge beach houses, along with pools, a golf course, parks, restaurants, and shops. Just choose the accommodations and the price that fits your budget.

When? There are two aspects to this one. When, as in can you leave on vacation at a moment’s notice? Hotels and resorts like to have full rooms. It means people are also spending money on food and

amenities. So if they have empty rooms, you have some power to negotiate a better deal. Check the website, check sites like hotels.com,  then call the hotel or resort directly and see them what’s the best they can do. You often get the best price by dealing directly with property. When can also refer to when can you go? Does it have to be when the kids are out of school? If you’re a Baby Boomers, probably

Summerwind Resort in Navarre Beach, Florida
not. If you can travel in the low season, you’re going to get the best prices. Many beach areas are perfectly lovely in May or September and you’ll find some great deals.

Where? It’s pretty obvious that you’re not going to get a great deal during the high season when hotels and resorts make most of their money. You’re also not going to get a great deal at the most popular

beaches, unless you head to someplace like Hilton Head, South Carolina during the off season. We stayed at the wonderful Beach House in Hilton Head which is a Holiday Inn Resort and has one of the biggest beach areas at low tide that I have ever seen.  The United States has pretty big coastlines on the east and west and down by the Gulf.  Get out a map and check out some of the smaller, less populous beach areas.

Go to the library or the bookstore and read up on some of these small and undiscovered, but quite lovely locations or just browse the Internet for ideas. Once you find an area that looks interesting, check tripadvisor for reviews of the hotels, resorts, or rental properties you are considering. There are plenty of gorgeous beach areas that your family is going to love – and that you can afford.

Why? Please. Do we even need this?

Now I think I’ll take a break from writing and go walk on the beach.

And so should you.

Need to Escape the Cold? Make Tracks to Turks & Caicos!

This has been the coldest, longest, snowiest and most depressing winter I can recall. And as a sixth-generation Canadian living in one of the coldest places in the country, I’ve seen more than my share. So when the opportunity came up to come out of hibernation for a few days by hopping a plane to glorious Grace Bay Beach on the Turks and Caicos island of Providenciales (locally known as “Provo” ) I couldn’t  pack fast enough!
Grace Bay Beach
When I first looked at photos online I thought they  must be retouched as the beach looks just too perfect. But I’d also heard from some of my travel writing colleagues that Grace Bay ranked among their top five on the planet. So it was with an open mind I anticipated pure paradise. I wasn’t disappointed. It truly is postcard perfect.

The Somerset at Grace Bay
The Somerset at Grace Bay
Activities at The Somerset
This was to be a short trip, not one bent on exploring every inch of a new destination, but more of a rest, recharge and thaw-out sojourn. SoThe Somerset at Grace Baywas just what the doctor ordered. It’s a small  five-star luxury boutique  hotel with  all-suite condo style accommodations ranging from one-bedroom garden view to split level three bedroom and penthouse affairs. All rooms are all fully equipped with everything one would  need to live in them: washers dryers,well-stocked kitchen appliances and dishes, whirlpool baths, multiple bathrooms, and beautifully appointed living areas sprawling onto ultra large balconies.  My one bedroom suite was  humongous, yet it never felt empty due to  the smart and homey design. But though the accommodations are first-rate, the real star at this resort  is the beachfront infinity and endless pool area. It’s stunning.  And of course, then there’s the beach!
During my stay, dining was confined to the pool terrace  restaurantLunaSea and a special Beach BBQ as they were mid-construction of a brand spanking new uber classy dining spot.  The new multi-level  restaurant  is now open;  it’s called  Pavilion at the Somerset run by Executive Chef Eric Vernice, and offers a broad range of fusion and Caribbean cuisines. And it’ s also complemented by a  new classy cocktail bar on-site called The Pearl.
Surf-side Pleasures

The Somerset at Grace Bay
Grace Bay beach offers 12 magnificent miles of stellar soft sand and gentle surf, and the activities right in front of the resort include hobie cat sailing, paddle board lessons, sea kayaking and sunset yoga.  And I enjoyed them all. But I also really enjoy snorkeling, so I had to make side trip for that. The resort will lend you the equipment, then you take an about a 25-minute walk down the beach to find a perfect public snorkel spot called Bight Reef. It’s a protected coral garden right off shore beginning in very shallow water where you can easily spot scads of huge parrot fish and all kinds of colorful sea creatures. It’s ideal for little ones and novice snorkelers, and the water is crystal clear and the coral vibrant and healthy.
Bight Reef

Other Pleasurable Pastimes…

Though I found it really tough to tear myself away from that prime beachfront playground, I did manage to take a complimentary coaster bike into the modern little touristy town five minutes away for a little off-resort exploration. There are cute little shops and  bars, ( do try Lemon Cafe for exquisite coffees ) and it’s worth a look to buy some nifty souvenirs like Bambarra Rums- excellent local spirits that come in different blends and flavors.
Bambarra Rums
If you have more time, then a day trip out to the famous Conch Farm or an island tour  by land or sea are also great options. But if not, just enjoy. Beaches this alluring  are difficult to come by. And the polar vortex will fast become just a distant memory.
