Strippers, stalkers and hands down my trousers

HE'S king of the crushing putdown, master of the withering look and a fan of high-waisted trousers...but Simon Cowell has still become a megastar in the US.
And when I spent a week on the West Coast with Pop Idol's Mr Nasty I saw at first hand the, er, ‘terrible' price he has to pay for making it big across the pond.
He must have thought he was California dreamin' when a feisty blonde marched up to him in the foyer of the Fox TV offices in LA...and stuck her hand straight down the front of those famous high-waisters!
"In England, we shake hands," he told her, just about managing to keep his cool. Later he told me: "Nothing surprises me or shocks me any more. LiterallyANYTHING can happen now.
"In America, you can look like Godzilla but if you're on TV you'll become attractive to women. People are obsessed with celebrity over here, much more so than in England."
That obsession can get out of hand and, like many famous names, Simon has been singled out by the stalkers.
He also has to cope with women who hit on him—any time, any place. Only in America, he says, could you be out having dinner with your girlfriend and end up singled out for some very dirty dancing by another woman.
"A girl recently came up to me in a restaurant in LA when my girlfriend Terri was sitting next to me," he said.
"This girl told me she needed to ask me something privately, so I moved to her table...and she started to do a striptease!
"She got as far as undoing her shirt, then a friend of mine came over and said, ‘Simon, I think you'd better come back to the table'.
Stunning
"Needless to say, Terri wasn't very amusedbut I thought it was hilarious."
It's clear American Idol has made Simon a very hot property in the US. He's in talks about his own chat show over there and is about to produce his first drama series, which he has co-written.
On top of that, his dating show, Cupid, has been sold to 10 countries and is being recommissioned for a second series. And his autobiography, I Don't Mean To Be Rude But..., is out in November.
He is reportedly the third-highest paid star on American TV and has amassed a huge fortune which showbiz insiders estimate could swell ro £100million within a few years.
His fame and fortune have made him irresistible, but Simon, 43, insists the women who proposition him are wasting their time. He's staying faithful to stunning Terri Seymour, a 30-year-old showbiz correspondent for the US TV show Extra.
But it can be tough. From LA, we followed Simon to San Francisco, where he judged the fifth round of the American Idol 3 auditions.
One wannabe Idol, Marisa Sobecki-Engle, 19, was clearly smitten. "I think Simon is kind of cute for an older guy," she gushed.
"I think he's got bags of style. And he's also got a young girlfriend, which means he must have some ‘mad skills'." But then she would say that. She got through the round largely on Simon's vote.
And anyway, according to Simon, it's the mums he has to really watch out for.
"When I was doing American Idol 1 & 2, I had more mothers hit on me than contestants. And I'm talking big time," he said.
"There were a lot of very, VERY bizarre suggestions and it wasn't about, ‘If I do this, will you put my daughter through?' They just came on to me. That's when I realised I was over 40, because it was only the mothers.
"They'd say, ‘I'm staying in this hotel. Blah blah blah.' I'd just say, ‘Thank you very much. You are adorable. Unfortunately, I'm dating someone'."
But Simon is only human and he admitted: "I was sorely tempted by one mum when we were filming American Idol 1. She was very cute. And it was pre-Terri!"
However, for every sexy come-on Simon gets at auditions, there's a confrontation, too. "When we were in Houston, some guy came in and, when I say I lost it, I was literally out of control with laughter," he reveals.
"He was so furious, he walked up to me and threw a glass of water in my face. But I couldn't help it. He was just hideous—absolutely horrendous."
In New York, during the first series of American Idol, Simon's straight talking almost got him beaten up.
"A couple of kids had auditioned and I'd told them they were useless. The next evening they came back with three of their friends and were waiting for me outside the hotel with baseball bats.
"They were absolutely going to beat the s**t out of me. Fortunately for me, I had changed my normal schedule and left the building at an earlier time."
He's also had to cope with the stalkers. He said: "There was some weird girl at one of the Emmy Award parties the other night,
Scary
"She came up to me and whispered, ‘Every time you're in the Saks 5th Avenue department store, I stalk you. And now I'm stalking you tonight'."
She was not the first to spook him.
"When I first came to LA, I rented a house on North Roxbury. One night, we were woken by a crash and a stalker had got into the garden. No question about it, someone got in.
"The very next day, we moved house. That's all you can do."
So the acid-tongued terror of the pop world can feel vulnerable. And he has a soft side, as I discovered as we left the hotel to catch a flight to London.
Despite the rush, Simon took a great deal of time to talk to a group of schoolchildren and sign autographs. When he eventually left, the teacher asked: "So, children, are we still scared of Simon?"
"Nooooo," they yelled back in unison.
They might not be, but there are hundreds of pop wannabes who still are...

Alex Best may have split with cheating husband

Alex: I'll never divorce George
By Phil TaylorLONG-SUFFERING Alex Best may have split with cheating husband George but she's vowed to make life awkward for blonde rivals vying to take her place.
In a scathing attack on the fallen soccer legend and new lover Gina Devivo, betrayed Alex raged: "I'm NOT going to divorce him to let her step in."

Her outburst came in the wake of a brief statement on Tuesday that she had separated from alcoholic George after the News of the World exposed his affairs with crop-haired Paula Shapland, 25, and stunning 33-year-old divorcee Gina.
As she poured her heart out to us Alex, 31, repeated her pledge:
"I'm not divorcing George. That would leave it all too open, wouldn't it just? Gina thinks she's going to be the next Mrs Best. But at the end of the day it's all going to come crashing around beneath her.
And I'm not going to be dragged down with it.
I know George has told her she's the most beautiful girl he's ever met.
But it's the same old George rubbish when he wants to woo you. He's very, very good at it.
He said exactly the same thing to Paula Shapland and will say the same thing to the blonde he meets next week as well. Gina just has to realise he is messing around with her. He doesn't want to be with her. And I know that.
She has the mouth of a dustbin. She's very common. And she's no more special to him than anyone else. Next week it won't be Gina. He'll be with another woman. And then another."
Asked if she believed the drunken star would pursue a divorce to marry again, former air hostess Alex said sadly: "He'll die before then, won't he?"
Now shattered Alex has appointed showbiz agent Peter Burrell to act for her, severing her connection with George's agent Phil Hughes, and has started filming a tell-all Channel 4 documentary.
After eight years' marriage she told us she can no longer take the cheating and lies, adding:
"It's been an absolute nightmare. George is off his trolley and it's been driving me absolutely potty. He has been begging me to get back with him, calling me over and over again protesting his innocence. But I know he's been lying through his teeth about Paula and Gina.
And what makes it even worse is that he's now tried to make out it's all my fault— accusing me of being an alcoholic and of sleeping around.
I've done everything I possibly can to help George and don't know what I've done to deserve all this.
But I'm sick to death of it and I'm NOT going to get back with him—and he knows that. He has kicked me in the teeth."
Two weeks ago leggy mother of two Gina, who lives in a Surrey council house, told theNews of the World how she enjoyed a passionate affair with 57-year-old Best.
Despite his two months of denials, Gina revealed: "We had hot sex night after night." Last week the former Manchester United star—living on borrowed time after a liver swap—finally confessed his lust and even posed for a picture with her.
But Alex admits she still loves George —when he's off the booze. "He's a totally different person when he's sober," she sighed.
"But he's been drunk two months now and doesn't know what he's doing. It's just going to get worse. He's going to kill himself."

Brain scan scare for sick Gareth Gates

SINGER Gareth Gates was rushed to hospital for a brain scan after falling ill within hours of returning home from his tour of Asia and Australia.
Doctors feared that the star may have contracted the deadly SARS virus as his temperature soared and he began complaining of severe headaches.
The 19-year-old Pop Idol millionaire started showing early symptoms similar to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome as he arrived at his home in Kensington, west London, on Thursday night.
He went to his GP who took no chances after examining him.

"The doctor was very concerned he could have contracted any number of tropical viruses—including SARS— because he'd been in Asia for over a week," said a source close to Gareth. "His temperature was through the roof and he had a severe headache that was getting worse.
"He took some painkillers but they didn't work. He was in a lot of pain and we were all very worried because no one knew what was wrong with him.
"The doctor took him to Chelsea and Westminister Hospital in his car because there was no time to wait for an ambulance. It was all a bit touch and go.
"As soon as Gareth arrived he was immediately taken for a brain scan and then he was transferred to a private wing. Doctors were concerned about his condition and kept him in overnight. They were checking him every hour.
"The next day his temperature had finally gone down and they let him go home.
"But he's been told he has to rest for a while and to contact them immediately if his temperature goes back up."
His spokeswoman, Charlotte Hickson of 19 Management, said: "We can confirm that Gareth was kept in hospital overnight with high temperature and severe headache.
"He's been told to rest by doctors and has had to cancel some of his appearances." The singer has been working flat out since June after touring Europe, in countries including France, Germany and Norway.
Pop Idol judge Simon Cowell has drawn up a punishing itinerary for the chart-topper whose career is going from strength to strength.
After a stint in Brazil, he returned to London for the Prince's Trust's Party In The Park earlier this month.
Gruelling
Just days later he set off for a gruelling set of dates in Indonesia, Thailand, Korea and Australia, playing to packed venues in a part of the world where he is nearly as big as David Beckham.
The workaholic singer was due to pre-record a performance of his new single Sunshine yesterday afternoon for CD:UK but has now cancelled his all appearances until the end of next week.
It all adds up to a bad month for Gareth. Two weeks ago he finally admitted he slept with Jordan last year while she was pregnant.

Michael Jackson paid ex-wife Debbie Rowe $2million

FALLEN idol Michael Jackson paid ex-wife Debbie Rowe $2million—to keep mum about their children.

The costly confidentiality agreement gagged her fromEVER discussing the details of their bizarre business arrangement.
Until now, it was assumed that Debbie, 41, received one lump sum in return for bearing two children for the singer—Prince Michael, six, and five-year-old Paris Michael.
But for the first time we can reveal the exact details of her hefty hush-hush settlement and how Jackson has continued to buy her ‘loyalty' by staggering the payments over years.
The mega-deal, totalling $11.965 MILLION(£6.5million) was drawn up after she agreed to give the singer "sole legal and physical custody" of the children when the couple divorced in 1999.
Under the agreement, Debbie received a "temporary spousal lump sum" of $215,000 and a "non-modifiable spousal support" of $150,000 every year for the next five years.
On top of that the former receptionist secured annual payments until 2008 totalling another $7.5 MILLION—$1m annually for three consecutive years and $750,000 annually for the following six years.
Extortionist
As this only guaranteed keeping her quiet until 2008, Jackson stumped up a further $2MILLION to lock her into a confidentiality agreement for life.
In addition, Debbie—dubbed "The Extortionist" by insiders at Jackson's lawyers— received the title deeds to the star's $1.5 MILLION Beverly Hills home, where she still lives, and a brand new Ford Explorer SUV car.
She also kept the clothes, jewellery and furs she had amassed during their three-year arrangement.
But court papers reveal that Debbie had no claim over Jacko's fleet of luxury cars or "all the trains in his possession".
Despite the bumper pay-off Jackson, who is facing child molestation charges, continues to pick up Debbie's expenses.
Last month he shelled out $62,566 for her December spending spree. The monster bill included $24,000 for purchases made on her credit card, $20,000 for maintenance,$4,500 for household items, $3,000 for mortgage payments, $2,000 for eating out and$1,000 for clothes.
Although Debbie has secretly completed an application to gain custody of her children she has always publicly defended Jacko.
But our revelations have shed new light on her continued support and made a mockery of her claims that her relationship with Michael was "not about money".
Last week we revealed that Jackson was not the biological father of his children with Debbie. We told how the couple signed a surrogacy agreement in January 1996 and Debbie was impregnated with semen from an anonymous donor.
A year after her marriage she gave a US TV interview in which she insisted: "I did this because I love him." But relations between the pair have become strained since Jackson made it difficult for her to visit their children, she claims.

In her declaration to regain custody, she reveals: "I wanted to speak with Michael over the past few years to talk about our children but he did not want to speak with me."
And on her application Debbie details what she terms "serious concerns".
She says: "He is unable to think about the kid's interests while in the midst of legal battles. I believe I have a responsibility to protect my children's lives and well-being."

WHEN celebrity maneater Alicia Douvall

TOBY WAS A
DIRTY DOUVALL

Alicia: He was actually
salivating...he reminded
me of my doggie Gucci
before he has his din-dins

WHEN celebrity maneater Alicia Douvall aimed both barrels of her 32GG cleavage at kids' TV star Toby Anstis this week there was only one question: Would he ever climb out of there alive?
Even as the pair disappeared into the night, the smart money said the News of the World would have the full story by Sunday.
And sure enough, the bed was still warm on Toby's side when Alicia adjusted her centre of gravity and called us for a long chat.
"Toby was itchier for sex than the itchiest man in Itchyland on National Itchy Day," she said. "He was great in bed and I'm going to enjoy myself with him again and again.
"I was wearing this skintight black dress and we hadn't been in his flat very long when my boobs just popped out of the top. Well, it would have been rude to put them away again so I let him carry on playing while I stripped down to my panties.
"By now Toby was actually salivating, bless him. He reminded me of my doggie Gucci before he has his din-dins.
"Then he stripped too — Toby I mean — and we went to the bedroom."

Horsebox
Alicia is the first to accept she's been about a bit. "Actually it's a good job I don't actually put notches on my bedpost," she laughed. "You'd be able to line a horsebox with all the chipboard flakes on my bedroom carpet."
Alicia, the 24-year-old star of ITV1's Girls Behaving Badly, slept with Toby, 33, after the premiere of Jack Nicholson's new film About Schmidt on Wednesday.
Heart FM radio DJ Toby, who made his name as a kids' presenter on CBBC, was a gonner from the word go. Alicia was already drawing on her experiences with (big breaths, please) Dwight Yorke, Simon Cowell, Dean Gaffney, Dane Bowers, Fabien Barthez, Puff Daddy, Mick Hucknall, Shaggy, Gary Beadle and Chelsea's Celestine Babayaro.
She said helpfully: "I follow a five-point plan."
STEP ONE: The Pout. "Your priority is the venue," said Alicia, happily on her specialist subject. "You're never going to pull a star down the Dog And Duck. I have four favourite venues in London: Attica, Teatro, China White and a new place called Click.
"I either play it shy and submissive (not often), or tell them what I want. Even before we slept together on Wednesday I first met Toby at Teatro about a week ago. I made out I wasn't trying to pull him, the shy approach. He thought, ‘If she's not going to pull me, I'll pull her'."
STEP TWO: Seduction. Alicia, always rhythmic, went on: "I have a little rhyme I repeat to myself: ‘Now you've got their attention, you've got to work to bed 'em'.
"Moet & Chandon champagne plays an important part. It's vital they guzzle as much as possible so their defences are down.
"I've occasionally had some problems here. Celestine Babayaro is a devout Muslim and wouldn't touch a drop. Still, he fancied me anyway and eventually I got him to smear me with chocolate and lick it off."
STEP THREE: String it out. "I've never bedded a guy on the first night," Alicia insisted, adding the immortal line: "Guys hate a girl who's easy."
She went on: "You can imagine how difficult this strategy was with Mick Hucknall. He's doesn't like being kept waiting — which is funny because with Mick it's all over very quickly. Put it this way, I love Coronation Street-and we once managed it in the ad break. I didn't miss a second of part two."
STEP FOUR: At last, the sex. "If you're with a minger—we're talking Dean Gaffney or Gary Beadle—there's only one thing for it: start suggesting a threesome," said Alicia. "Guys love the idea of sex with two girls...and at least that way there's someone pretty to look at when you're with them.
"I admit that when I met Toby again this week I got ‘Step Two' a bit wrong. I got drunk as well and we were pictured falling over in the taxi to his place in Hammersmith.
"When we went into the bedroom I walked in front of him so he could get a good look at my botty. He was patting it gently.
"Toby has the looks of a little choirboy, but he's a devil in bed, even naughtier than me. But first there were lots of kisses and cuddles which was a bit uncomfortable because Toby hadn't shaved."
And nailing lies about camp-sounding Toby being effeminate, Alicia added: "Believe me, he's all man. The sex itself was lovely — and he's got a lot more staying power than Mick Hucknall.
Garlic
"I think he could last for three full episodes of Corrie. But I didn't stay the night. I left him wanting more." Which brings us to...
Step Five: Keep him or dump him? "No one likes to dump a guy but sometimes it just has to be done," Alicia continued. "Take Dean Gaffney—he bad-mouthed me all over London after I'd let him down gently. I was furious and exposed him for the spotty little brat he is.
"But for every celebrity I've talked about, there are a dozen I've kept secret—including one who's probably one of the top footballers in the world at present. And he plays in the Premiership. I'll let you guess who he is-but he did have a Latin whiff of garlic on his breath!
"So do I dump Toby? On this performance, no. I've got him hooked now. I'm going to enjoy myself."

BRITNEY SPEARS' ex fell for the gorgeous girl

WOOD you believe it! JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE is dating a British student he met only a week ago.
BRITNEY SPEARS' ex fell for the gorgeous girl, known only as Sarah-Jane, when he saw her dancing sexily at London's Browns nightclub last Sunday.
He had flown in just hours earlier for an appearance on Top Of The Pops.
One clubgoer saw Justin, flanked by two minders, move in on the 22-year-old beauty, who is studying business at the University of London.

Intimate
My source told me: "She was a great mover and Justin wasn't the only man in the club to go weak at the knees looking at her. They were laughing and shouting in each other's ears. She was all over him.
"After a while they went back to his table and she sat with him.
"They knocked back vodka and Cristal champagne and were very intimate. They left the club at about 2.30am and jumped in the cars waiting outside for him."
The NSync singer took Sarah and his crew back to the nearby Mandarin Hotel and partied into the early hours.
A source close to Sarah-Jane revealed: "She rang and told me she was in Justin's room and that he was very sexy and that they'd be spending the week there."
For the next couple of days the couple stayed inside the top hotel.
Justin failed to show at both Funky Buddah and Chinawhite where he was on the guest lists.
He was due at the Click Club after recording Top Of The Pops on Thursday but let his minders join the party while he went back to the Mandarin.
My source added: "Justin and Sarah-Jane have been very careful not to be spotted together and always keep a distance when they go out.
"She really likes him but he's going back to the States next week so we'll have to wait and see what happens."
Justin split from Britney last year but the pair were caught snogging at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles this week.
He has also dated CHRISTINA AGUILERA and actress ALYSSA MILANO.

Pop Idle as Will Young lazes with a pal at Buckingham Palace during the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Fancy a nibble?
Try my lunchbox
IT'S a case of Pop Idle as Will Young lazes with a pal at Buckingham Palace during the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The gay star shared a picnic lunch with his mystery mate as they waited for the Prom concert.

And what more majestic setting to nibble your strawberries than in the shade of the palace?

"They were sipping bubbly and chatting quietly," said the fan who snapped these pictures. "Will was so relaxed— he reached out and brushed against his pal a few times."
The 23-year-old singer was also spotted by other fans as he polished off the his meal.

And the contents of Will's lunchbox? Chicken, pasta, chocolate...and butter shortbread, of course. Because where there's a Will there's a wafer.

Pop Idol yet with rivals Gareth Gates and Will Young neck-and-neck as they won through to the final week.

TELLY viewers last night watched the most sensational Pop Idol yet with rivals Gareth Gates and Will Young neck-and-neck as they won through to the final week.

Almost SIX MILLION fans voted with long-time favourite Gareth, 17, getting 39.8 per cent of the poll.

That was just 29,000 votes ahead of 23-year-old Will Young on 39.3 per cent.

Former Popstars contender Darius Danesh, 21, was booted off the show after polling just 20.9 per cent.

The amazing result came on the day Gareth revealed he has recruited hypnotist Paul McKenna to help him overcome his stutter.

And last night Pop Idol judge Simon Cowell, speaking exclusively to the News of the World, claimed the Gareth v Will battle would be bigger than the general election.

Brilliant

He said: "The best two stars are in the final. Both Will and Gareth put on brilliant performances. They deserved all the votes they got. The public are far more interested in who wins Pop Idol than they were over the last election result."

An insider on the show admitted: "Will's performance astonished everyone last night.

"All week it was too close to call between Darius and Will, who were trailing behind Gareth in second place.

"But so impressed were the public with Will's singing that he shot way ahead of Darius when the polls closed.

"Now there's a real feeling that next Saturday Will could achieve what many people thought would be impossible only a few hours earlier and actually go on to win the top prize."

When the votes were announced by judges Ant & Dec, Gareth received a pat on the back from the two other contestants as he learned he was through.

Will buried his head in his hands as he was told he was into the final.

Learning he had been voted out, Darius turned to Will and hugged him. Gareth then put his arms around the duo as all three congratulated each other.

Will said: "I feel like screaming. It was just mad. This was the worst week as far as nerves go."

Emotional Darius took his defeat in good spirit, telling ITV1 viewers: "I'd like to thank everybody who picked up the telephone and made my dream come true.

"Over one million people voted for me. What do you say to that? It's incredible."

Later, as Pop Idol continued on ITV2, Gareth and Will were then asked to use three words to describe their feelings after last night's result. But as Gareth stuttered and was unable to speak, Will joked to his rival: "Come on, it's only three words!"

Gareth had performed The Beatles classic Yesterday and Westlife's Flying Without Wings as his two numbers on last night's show.

After Gareth had sung, Simon Cowell said: "Gosh, I'm almost speechless. I've never hidden my admiration for you, Gareth."

Will sung Beyond The Sea and a much praised version of Jackie Wilson's classic soul number Sweetest Feeling. As he praised Will, Cowell said: "It's so weird to be so nice all of the time."

Darius appeared nervous when he sang his first number, a cover of Toploader's Dancing In The Moonlight.

But he fared much better as he performed the Walker Brothers' Make It Easy On Yourself

Cowell, who had been one of Darius' fiercest critics earlier on in the series, last night leapt to his defence, saying: "You've proved to be a total professional." Later the hardman judge revealed he had given Darius a pat on the back after the show.

He said: "I wished Darius all the best and there were no hard feelings. Darius is a great singer."

Earlier, Gareth exclusively told the News of the World that he wants hypnotist McKenna to help him lose his stutter before he hits the big time.

The Bradford boy, whose stutter disappears when he sings, said: "I've never been hypnotised before but I think Paul McKenna is fantastic and I'm definitely going to give it a try.

"Paul must be the best in the business and if anyone can help me, he can. I've seen him on TV and what he does is amazing.

"If he can help in any way I'd be very grateful. I'm keeping my fingers crossed."

Paul, 38, is no stranger to high-profile hypnosis—his list of clients reads like a who's who from the world of showbiz.

Powers

He has used his powers of suggestion to help George Michael, Robbie Williams, Geri Halliwell, Jerry Hall, Ronan Keating and many more.

He told the News of the World: "I never talk about private clients but hypnosis is very effective with stutters. We shall have to wait and see."

Paul never charges clients but asks them to make a donation to charity.

Songwriter and former Eurythmics star Dave Stewart had a one-hour session a few months ago and gave £5,000 to a good cause.

A Pop Idol insider said: "This is a great opportunity for Gareth. He's a very brave and talented man.

"He's got a great future ahead of him and if anyone can help further his career then that's great news."

Last night bookies William Hill slashed the odds on Will to land next week's Pop Idol prize to 7/4 from 5/1.

Gareth remained firm favourite at 2/5.
