Top-Level Exec Who Reads Bedtime Stories and Serves Pork to 500

Amy Dordek Dolinsky has been actively involved in the Chicago business community for more than 25 years. She joined BPI Group, a global HR consulting firm in 2009, bringing extensive experience in business development, marketing and sales in the professional services industry. She is the highest-ranking woman in the U.S., serving as a market leader, national account manager, as well as a member of the operating and management team.

In her current role, Amy manages the Midwest region as well as key client relationships, while also spearheading account management and marketing activities. Prior to joining BPI group, Dordek Dolinsky was a client relationship manager for a human resources consulting firm, Capital H Group. She was also a vice president of business development for an accounting and finance consulting firm for 10 years earlier in her career.

Dordek Dolinksy, along with her husband, ABC 7 Chicago’s Food Reporter Steve Dolinsky, enjoys culinary travel around the world with their two children, Madeline and Max.

Womenetics: You have worked in human resources. What advice would you give to women looking for a job in today’s economy?
Amy Dordek Dolinsky: The advice I would give women would be similar to the advice I give men. First you need make sure that you conduct an inventory of all of your accomplishments and achievements so that you can paint a picture of who you are and what you’ve done. I also advise people to test the market to make sure that all of what they have to say about themselves is relevant and current. This means you look at the job boards and postings to make sure that what you say about yourself and your experience matches what the market is looking for in that particular function or industry.

I also recommend that people use the various social networking tools to their advantage, especially LinkedIn. Many people have a profile, but it may not be complete, and they are not really using it to its full potential. We joke that they are “on it” but not “in it.”

Also, sometimes women aren’t as good at promoting themselves or networking to leverage their contacts. They may not want to ask for help. I say, people love to be asked for advice and help, if you do it in the right way. You’ll be surprised. Many people don’t realize how helpful their networks can be and how most people today find jobs not through job boards but through networking. I always suggest people start with the places they feel most comfortable -- like their places of worship, their alumni groups, their old colleagues -- and go from there.

I’ve also recommended people read an interesting article called “Six Degrees of Lois Weisberg” by Malcolm Gladwell that was featured many years ago in The New Yorker. It’s the article that preceded his book, “The Tipping Point.” It offers an interesting perspective on the concept of how connections and creating different circles of influence matter.

Womenetics: From an employer’s point of view, what makes a good candidate?
Dordek Dolinsky: A good candidate is someone who shares details and specific examples when answering questions about themselves. I’ve always been impressed when people share interesting and specific examples of how they have been successful in a past position. That is the key to what we call “behavioral interviewing:” demonstration of past performance for a similar position.

It’s also good when people say “I” versus “we” in an interview. I always want to know what a candidate did themselves, even if they made a mistake or learned something versus someone who always says “we” because I question what they actually did or the role they did or didn’t play.

A good candidate is someone who appears composed, even if they are not on the inside. Everyone should do their research beforehand, not just on the company but also on the person/people they are meeting. I like when someone smiles or engages me, not just answers the questions but creates a conversation. The most important thing is to be a good match both for the position and for the culture. Most people fail not because they can’t do the actual job or because they lack technical experience but because they don’t fit the culture.

Womenetics: You co-founded TradeStar Expo, a trade show exhibit manufacturing and consulting firm and later sold it. Do you miss being an entrepreneur?
Dordek Dolinsky: I feel like I’ve been an entrepreneur my entire career. Since TradeStar Expo, I have joined several organizations that have allowed me to maintain my entrepreneurial spirit. The Johnsson Group was a startup that I joined after TradeStar, and I helped grow this small accounting and finance consulting to approximately $12 million and then sold it to a French consulting conglomerate. After that I was an investor and one of the first employees of another start-up consulting firm, Capital H Group.

Joining BPI group in growth mode in the U.S. is another exciting opportunity where I can contribute with my experience as we expand in the Midwest and nationally. Although I may be working for a bigger, global organization, that spirit, that need to wear many different hats and roll up your sleeves to make something happen never really goes away no matter where you go. I’ve always joined organizations that have valued that in me. My relationship-building skills, energy and “can-do” attitude were what they were looking for.

Womenetics: You served on the Executive Committee of Reading is Fundamental in Chicago. I understand that you practice what you preach and read to your children every night. Is that correct?
Dordek Dolinsky: I do still read with my children every night. It’s a ritual even though they are 14 and 11. Now that we’re on adult level books, I am just as hooked on the stories as my kids. My daughter and I are racing to finish “Big Miracle” before the movie comes out because the books are always better than the movies. More details!

Womenetics: How do you find time to participate in leadership roles in the community, while filling a demanding professional position and being a mother and wife?
Dordek Dolinsky: Balance is the key to life, and in the end, it’s never perfect no matter how well I try to prioritize. I’m pretty organized, so that helps. But I get a lot of support from my husband, family and colleagues. It requires teamwork on every level. My kids have developed a sense of independence that will serve them well in life.

But my husband is helping me to practice the word “no.” I’m not very good at saying no. My husband just made me read an article about collecting friends and letting some go. Again, it is all about balance and understanding what is most important to you at different times of your life.

I have learned a lot from my leadership roles in non-profit organizations, which I’ve applied to my job or career. Sometimes this is the leadership or career development that you don’t get in your job if your company doesn’t offer training, and it can be incredibly beneficial.

People often ask me how I do it, especially women who may be thinking of starting a family but are at critical moments in their careers. There is never a perfect time for anything. If you plan too much, you’ll never get things done, so I always tell women to just go for it. You’ll figure it out later.

I promise that people will figure out the balance that is right for them.

I have to try to keep this quote in mind: “Women need real moments of solitude and self-reflection to balance out how much of ourselves we give away.” - Barbara de Angelis

And also: “You will never find time for anything. If you want time you must make it.” - Charles Buxton

Womenetics: What keeps you up at night?
Dordek Dolinsky: The sounds of sirens in the city keep me up at night! No, seriously, what keeps me up at night is worrying about balance and finding the time for everything. Quality time with my husband, kids, family is most important. I go to bed mentally checking everything off in my head from the day and then planning for the day ahead, and that often keeps me from getting a good night’s sleep. I always hope that I’m the best I can be for everyone in my life, and it sometimes creates expectations that I can’t always meet. I can’t wait for the device that pulls things out of your head and does them for you so that I could focus on the most important things and let the little things go.

Womenetics: What do you most hope for your children?
Dordek Dolinsky: I want my children to be confident and independent. I want them to contribute in a way that makes a difference but also be able to support themselves. We always joke about the fact that they are going to work as soon as they are legally able! It’s such good experience for kids to learn from work. I meet with so many young people who are job hunting, and I love when someone comes in and is self-assured, prepared, articulate and a go-getter.

My kids have gone to Montessori school (where play and lessons are all called “work”), and I love the idea of educating my kids to be part of a global community where independence, freedom within limits and respect for others is emphasized. We just had a parent-teacher conference for our daughter, and we said it was one of the best experiences we have ever had as parents because the teacher told us that she’s a kind, hardworking, whole person who may struggle in math, but given her many other talents, she just needs to let it go. She’ll do great things regardless.

What great advice: play to your strengths, and let the other stuff go.

Womenetics: What are your hobbies?
Dordek Dolinsky: I love to travel with my family and experience the culinary and cultural experiences that each city and country has to offer. I’m small in stature so I like to/have to work out with a trainer and do enjoy hot yoga at Core Power Yoga. This all enables me to keep up with the food and cocktail adventures in my life.

Womenetics: Who was the biggest influence in your life?
Dordek Dolinsky: My parents and my first boss, Marilyn Lissner. My parents get top billing, certainly, as they simply are the best parents in the world. You can ask anyone who knows them. They were present and involved (to this day), wise, energetic, supportive and gave all three of their children a ton of self-confidence. We weren’t coddled but were loved and told we could do anything we set our minds to, but it would take work. I was and am a high-energy person, and they helped me channel it appropriately. They joked that I was a little tornado that they knew some day would make a positive impact. They made sure of it!

Following closely behind my parents was my first boss, mentor and now friend -- Marilyn Lissner. She was one of the first women in commercial real estate. Most women stayed in residential. She and her partner were two of the first women brokers and the only women I had ever met that wore pantsuits. That was pretty provocative in the late 80s and early 90s as those were still the days of “Dress for Success” where women wore skirts and jackets.

She has a great mind for business but leveraged her experience as a teacher and mom to her clients' advantage. Everyone who has worked with me knows some of my Marilyn stories because she said things like, “Make sure you get the agreement in writing because you want to protect your client if you should get hit by a bus.” Such a Jewish mother thing to say! Or, “If you don’t get a meeting with that person someone else will - don’t be afraid and just make the call. What’s the worst that can happen? They can just say no.” So many things like that stay with me today.

Marilyn taught me how to be tough yet kind, a client advocate and, above all, to maintain one’s integrity. Clients love her because she goes the extra mile for them and does a little mothering/nurturing along the way. I’m sure many people in the commercial real estate industry would say that they have learned from her. I mentioned her to an old friend recently, and we both smiled when talking about her. She’s still in the business and going strong.

Womenetics: I understand that you host a huge pig roast in your backyard in the summer. Why?
The 6th Annual Pig & Pinot

Dordek Dolinsky: We host an event that’s now called “Pig & Pinot” at the end of August every summer. We started it to celebrate my husband’s birthday, which is the end of August. Last year was the 6th Annual Pig & Pinot. It all started with this crazy pig roast box called The La Caja China. My husband’s good friend, Rick Cooper, has one of these boxes, and he and my husband wanted to try to cook a pig in this box with a few chef friends. Rick is a music industry professional and an investor in several Chicago restaurants, which is how he met my husband. Also because of my husband’s job, we eat out at many restaurants and have become friends with chefs and restaurant industry professionals both here in Chicago and nationally.

Another reason we originally hosted the pig roast was to entertain the chefs in our home. They so often entertain us and because at the core, every chef truly loves to feed people. We wanted to repay the favor and feed them! So the first year we ended up hosting about 100 people – mostly friends, neighbors and restaurant and music industry people – and it’s grown from there.

Two years ago it became too big, and we had about 500 people. People we invited then invited their friends and so on. It was crazy. We do the entire event in the alley behind our house which is why we can entertain such a large group. The invite says, “You bring the wine (Pinot or other). We’ll bring the swine (sides, etc.).” Pastry chefs sometimes bring cupcakes or cookies, mixologists bring cocktails and on and on. It’s become this huge, crazy almost pot luck-like event.

Jose Mourinho favourite scorer plays away from wife

FOOTBALL superstar Deco has been caught on camera cheating on his wife with a London hooker.

The Barcelona midfield wizard —favourite player of top manager Jose Mourinho—had sex with the £1,000-a-night vice girl on a trip to Britain three weeks ago.

Twenty minutes later he had a THREESOME with the girl. And 29-year-old Deco's night of debauchery in a London club was all captured on CCTV—along with a vile "roasting" orgy involving four pals and another prostitute.

A guest who witnessed the scenes told us: "I was disgusted. They were acting like animals."

Dad-of-three Deco's doting wife Jaciara will be devastated by his betrayal. After their wedding in April, 2005, Portugal's World Cup hero bragged: "I feel totally fulfilled...I couldn't ask for any more."

His disgrace is worse because he had the nerve to CRITICISE the behaviour of English players after the News of the World revelations about boozy Liverpool star Craig Bellamy attacking John Arne Riise with a golf club.

Giggly

This exposé is the second pasting for Deco—real name Anderson Luis de Souza—this week. The first was when he put Barcelona ahead against Liverpool at the Nou Camp but both Bellamy AND Riise wreaked revenge by scoring and taking a 2-1 victory.

Deco's vile night on the town came on February 6 after a friendly match at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium between his Portugal side and arch-rivals Brazil.

After winning 2-0 Deco and friends celebrated with champagne at ritzy Beauchamp Place in Kensington. But in the early hours he wanted to party on and a pal phoned around to find a discreet nightspot—and girls to entertain them.

Deco and seven mates took two cabs to the club and started drinking beer right away. Ten minutes later four prostitutes—one Chinese, a brunette and two blondes— turned up. To Deco's delight they began to strip in front of him.

The vice girls quickly got down to their G-strings, gyrating in front of Deco and touching each other to get him aroused. Another guest told us: "Deco and his pals were like giggly schoolboys. It all started as a bit of fun but soon got horribly out of hand.

"Deco chose the best-looking, a stunning young East European blonde with a fantastic body. Deco took off his trousers and went into a room with her still wearing his hat and T-shirt.

"Then he sat on the couch as the naked blonde got on her knees to perform oral sex. Two of his friends walked in but he calmly carried on as if they weren't there. Then the girl got on top of Deco and they had full sex, before switching position and doing it again.

"His friends were going wild with the other hookers in the next room. First it was one on one. Then there was two on one girl. And then it got really vile with four men on one girl.

"I couldn't believe my eyes. It was sickening and degrading. They treated the girls like hunks of meat."

After Brazilian-born Deco finished with his girl the camera caught him walking off with a leer on his face. But 20 minutes on he was having sex with her on the couch again. This time a guy in a suit joins in, kissing the girl passionately. Our source added: "Deco is a married man, a father of three and an international idol. But he didn't show a hint of guilt. He should be shamed and deserves to be exposed."

Now the millionaire star faces global humiliation as the damning footage could be posted on the internet.

The scandal comes just seven days after our exposé of the drunken karaoke dust-up among Liverpool stars.

Before facing Liverpool in Barcelona, Deco grabbed the moral high ground and snootily declared: "The cultures are different between Spain and England. There are footballers who drink here but not to the extent of what the Liverpool players did."

Our inside source said: "Deco was confident his wife would never find out about the hooker. Now it's all come back to haunt him. That one night of lust could end his marriage and cost him millions.

"It'll teach him not to make sniffy comments about our different cultures! He's just a two-faced hypocrite!"

Deco achieved worldwide stardom as the driving force behind Jose Mourinho's Champions League win with FC Porto in 2004. But he refused to follow the coach to Chelsea for £4.5 million a season. Instead he chose Barcelona for £2 million and said: "I am tired of listening that the man who made me famous is Mourinho.

"The only person responsible for my success is me."

And now there's only one person responsible for his downfall.

Cameron Diaz sharing a roll-up with Drew Barrymore

HERE'S Cameron Diaz sharing a roll-up with Drew Barrymore as they chill out on a joint holiday.

The close pals and Charlie's Angels co-stars split the cost of their high jinx on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
Drew passed the ciggie to Cameron, 34, who checked the coast was clear before taking a long drag. A fellow bather said: "Cameron's eyes were half shut and she leant back so far she was almost horizontal."
The duo have become closer friends after Cameron split from her pop-star toyboy Justin Timberlake last month and Drew broke off her relationship with Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti.
The pair - who co-starred with sultry actress Lucy Liu in the Charlie’s Angels movies - even vowed to spend Valentine’s Day together.
But Drew has since been spotted snuggling up to director Spike Jonze.
The actress is known for her wild chidhood, and famously confessed to drinking aged nine, smoking marijuana at 10 and snorting cocaine at 12.
She began battling an addiction to drink and drugs following the 1982 blockbuster E.T.
She later talked of hitting rock bottom, attempting suicide at 13 by slashing her wrists.
Cameron will appear later this year in animated film Shrek the Third.

HEARTBROKEN Kylie Minogue dumped lover Olivier Martinez

HEARTBROKEN Kylie Minogue dumped lover Olivier Martinez in a furious row over his womanising.

She blew her top after our damning photos last week showed he was spending time with two other beauties while she was away.
The News of the World photographed him dining with Lost star Michelle Rodriguez, 28, before they spent the night together.
We also witnessed Israeli-born model Sarai Givati, 24, slipping into the actor's suite at a Hollywood hotel.
But Kylie, wasn't the only one angry with the 41-year-old's playboy lifestyle.
A close pal said: "Olivier got it in the neck from BOTH women this week. Kylie had had enough of him appearing with Sarai as it made her look stupid. And Sarai knew his relationship with Kylie was all but over. They both told him he had to make a choice—‘It's her or me'."
Another friend of the 38-year-old pop princess said: "Kylie has admitted their relationship has been at breaking point for some time, but last week's pictures in the News of the World were the final straw.
"They've been arguing over her plans to start a family. Because of her breast cancer, Kylie feels the best way is through adoption, but Olivier refused.
Liaisons

"He still feels he can be a natural father to his children and refused to entertain her talk of adoption.
"To Kylie that was heartbreaking. She wants her man to feel the same way that she does about children.
"Eventually she couldn't take it any more. She is sick of reading about his liaisons with other beautiful women.
"Although Olivier denies he was cheating, she was becoming paranoid and feels she has lost all trust.
"Her cancer ordeal taught her that life is too short to waste on bad feelings and they spent too much time arguing." A source told the News of the World last night that Martinez, 41, has also cooled his romance with Sarai, insisting they must not meet publicly, if at all.
On Friday night, a joint statement was released saying: "Olivier Martinez and Kylie Minogue have officially confirmed that they are no longer a couple.
"They have made it clear that the decision to go their separate ways was mutual and amicable. The two remain very close friends."
Yet, even as the statement was being issued, Martinez was partying in Hollywood with another mystery stunner.
He left his exclusive hideaway Chateau Marmont hotel to party with the curvy beauty at a Beverly Hills manision, but this time he went home alone.
Kylie had invited him to join her in Mexico where she is taking a well-earned break from her punishing Showgirl Homecoming tour.
But Martinez had snubbed the chance to hold "clear the air" talks and remained holed up in the hotel. That was where we caught him having secret trysts with Sarai and Michelle — two women he has been linked to in the past.
Martinez had previously promised Kylie he was NOT having a fling with Sarai after spending three nights with her in Paris six weeks ago.
He claimed it was movie business. But we also caught him sharing a romantic dinner with 28-year-old Michelle who he had been spotted kissing outside the same hotel two years earlier.
""They returned to his suite and she emerged next morning in the same clothes.
"Last night a close friend of the couple said: "Kylie knew she and Olivier couldn't go on the way they were. It was tearing her apart."
Kylie met Martinez in February 2003 at the Grammy awards in LA shortly after she had split with model James Gooding.
She believed she had found true love as he supported her through her battle with breast cancer in 2005.
But cracks began to show in the last six months as they were kept apart by her commitments and his desire to lead a Hollywood playboy lifestyle.
The pair were last pictured together in London at the end of December.

THE mother of Suffolk Strangler suspect

THE mother of Suffolk Strangler suspect Steve Wright's secret child has told all about her four years at the side of the man accused of murdering five vice girls.

In an exclusive interview with the News of the World, his former partner Sarah Whitley told how she gave birth to Wright's daughter in 1992 but he:

  • SPLIT with them months later.
  • THREATENED to commit suicide. LOST his pub boss job through gambling and drinking.
  • HASN'T seen the child for eight years.
Sarah admitted she thought Wright was bluffing when he talked of killing himself a year after they split.
But just weeks ago, after he was charged with the Ipswich killings, she learned he DID try to end it all — TWICE.
"I'd no idea," said Sarah. "I thought it was an empty threat. In fact it made me angry. I thought he was just saying it to hurt me and I told him not to be so stupid."
Shop manager Sarah, who lives in south-east London with her daughter, started dating Wright in 1989 when she worked for him as a barmaid at the White Horse in Chislehurst.
"We hit it off right away," she told us. "Within six months I'd moved in with him over the pub."
Sarah said Wright, who already had three children and two failed marriages behind him, could be romantic.
"He liked cooking me dinner," she said. "And he was a kind, generous bloke, funny with it. There was talk of marriage but it just didn't happen. I can remember Steve getting the hump about things but I can't ever remember him getting violent. I was never afraid of him, never."
The couple moved to nearby Plumstead to run the Rose and Crown in 1990, and their daughter was born in 1992.
"Steve loved her to bits," said Sarah. "He was a loving father, no problem there at all."
But cracks began to appear in the relationship when Wright started gambling on the premises and drinking.
"Unfortunately he did like to gamble - and he wasn't very good at it," said Sarah.
"It was pub culture — cards, darts and pool. But there always had to be a bet. He didn't know when to stop. I didn't want that life.
"In the end it was Steve's fault he was sacked and we lost the pub, he wasn't running it properly.
"We had nowhere to go and it didn't seem Steve was too interested in looking after me and his seven-month-old baby. So we split up in 1993 and I moved in with friends."
A year later Wright sent Sarah a suicide note. "He said he missed his daughter, didn't want to be a part-time dad and had lost everything," she said. "But I didn't think he was the sort to kill himself."
It was Wright's dad Conrad. 70, who revealed his son DID try to gas himself in a car 12-years ago at the time of his note but cops saved him. And six years ago he was found overdosing on pills.
Sarah then recalled the last time Wright saw his daughter.
"She was six and Steve saw her in a school play," said Sarah. "Since then he hasn't sent a card, phoned or paid a penny towards bringing her up."
Sarah only learned her ex had been arrested through the papers. "When I told my daughter it was her dad police had charged she cried and cried."
3 WEEKS AFTER WE WED I GOT LETTER SAYING HE'D DIED

STRANGLER suspect Steve Wright has come back from the grave — says his Thai ‘widow'.
When 30-year-old Somchit Chomphusaeng was shown photographs of the accused she gasped: "Oh my God! That's my husband!" before fainting.
And she collapsed again when told WHY 48-year-old Wright is now in prison awaiting trial.
As she recovered from her shock in the Thai resort of Pattaya, Somchit said: "No! No! It must be his ghost. I was told he'd been murdered seven years ago.
"I got a letter that said it was from his mother, saying sorry but Steven had been stabbed to death in a taxi.
"This latest news is so difficult to believe.

    Kissed

"Steve left here the day after our honeymoon. I took him to the airport, kissed goodbye and cried. I thought we were in love. Then ten days later came this letter. I cried and cried then went back home to my mother and father."
The pair met at the E & T bar in Pattaya in July, 1999, on a street packed with sex joints.
"I was a cashier," said Somchit. "I didn't go with customers. But Steve came in every night and made small talk.
"After a couple of days he asked me out at closing time. And it was like that for the rest of his nine-day holiday.
"He was a very polite man and we never made love.
"But he come back to Thailand in December and said, ‘Let's live together.' That night we made love. Probably not the best I've ever had.. but he asked me to marry him.
"We had our first wedding party at the bar on January 4 and a traditional ceremony blessed by monks at my parents' house on January 17.
"Steve paid my £2,000 dowry and £1,500 so my parents could rebuild their house. He also gave me £1,000 in gold.
"On our two-week honeymoon we made love every day. Then Steve had to fly back to England but said he'd come back when he'd saved up and could get me a visa into Britain.
"Now I hear he's accused of these murders I can't believe it."
    HE BOUGHT ME EXPENSIVE LINGERIE

A BEAUTIFUL Thai girl has revealed how Strangler suspect Steve Wright couldn't resist splurging on pricey lingerie for her to wear for nights of passion.
Wisa Willshire, 28, confided to a pal: "Steve would buy me lots of expensive underwear from the malls and get me to wear it for him. But it would never stay on for very long because he'd immediately take it off again!"
Wisa told how she met Wright in a Pattaya bar in 1998 after he jetted east on a sex-fest after splitting with his barmaid partner Sarah Whitley.
"I was really just a good time for Steve," she said.
"But he was still charming and very generous to me. He delighted in buying me gifts of gold jewellery. He'd cover me in the stuff and promise eternal love.
"We just clicked from the minute we met and for three weeks we were inseparable.
"We did all the normal things that couples do — we went to bars and clubs at night and swam together during the day."
However, the relationship quickly fizzled out when Wright returned to the UK.
"He wrote me a few letters and sent a little money," said Wisa, who works as a nursing assistant at Pattaya Memorial Hospital. "But then it just stopped and I never heard from him again.
"I later heard he had returned to Thailand and found other girlfriends. I was shocked beyond belief when I heard that he'd been accused of such crimes."
