THIS shocking picture shows the depraved depths of drug abuse that Kate Moss's lover Pete Doherty has sunk to.
Bizarrely sporting a crash helmet, the rock wildman is caught on camera smoking heroin—casually firing up yet another fix on kitchen foil and puffing deep on the deadly fumes.
The sickening scene will chill catwalk queen Kate's family and friends.
They have desperately been begging her to ditch ex-Libertines singer Doherty just two weeks into their headline-grabbing fling.
Last night one worried close pal told us: "Seeing pictures of Doherty actually taking drugs really drives it home.
"We're all hoping Kate wises up pretty soon and gets shot of him."
Our exclusive picture is one of a series taken at the 25-year-old addict's east London flat last August. They show him "chasing the dragon" —druggie slang for smoking heroin —THREE TIMES.
And they explain exactly why Kate's fearful family dubbed him "the crackhead" after simply meeting him over Sunday lunch.
Those closest to multi-millionaire Kate know she's no angel and loves to party hard. But they're terrified Doherty—who spends up to £1,000 a day on heroin and crack cocaine— will send her crashing off the rails.
So far stubborn Kate, 31, has defied them all, including mum Linda, best pal actress Sadie Frost and ex-lover Jefferson Hack, who is threatening to go for sole custody of their two-year-old daughter Lila Grace if she doesn't see sense.
But last night more alarm bells sounded as Doherty's own family exclusively told us how his addiction has ripped them apart.
His favourite uncle Philip Michels said: "I love Pete immensely, but he's gone way over the top with the drugs.
Groupie
"His mum Jackie has cried and cried and cried about it. She sent him to The Priory clinic but he walked out. She's heartbroken.
"Pete was really well brought up, but got into drugs through a groupie. First of all it was cannabis and then suddenly the stronger stuff. Sometimes he can't go on stage because he's that out of it."
Philip said relatives were shocked by the way the army major's son had turned out. "When Pete was little he was always laughing and smiling," he said.
"He had a great sense of humour. He used to entertain us. He'd get dressed up and take off people like Hilda Ogden of Coronation Street.
"His dad, Big Peter, was made an MBE at Buckingham Palace for services in the first Gulf War. He and Jackie were very strict, but it was a very happy home.
"You could see Pete was different from an early age. He had a talent and a hunger for knowledge.
"When he was only 10 he'd buy three Sunday broadsheet newspapers and read them front to back in less than an hour.
"Around the same age he started to play the guitar and write poetry.
"He's a genius. His dad always wanted him to join the army, but he didn't want to know.
"At one stage he wanted to be a journalist. He went to university in London but they couldn't keep him there—he was too clever. His mum and dad went mad when he dropped out but he was adamant he wanted to be in a band."
But as well as finding fame, self-confessed addict Doherty discovered drugs.
After three failed attempts at rehab, The Libertines could take no more and booted him out.
Worries
He landed a six-month prison sentence in 2003 for breaking into fellow band member Carl Barat's London flat and stealing electrical equipment to fund his habit.
Uncle Philip told us: "I'm very anti-drugs but I still love Pete. Sometimes he'll phone me for a chat at 2am or 3am. I've tried to tell him about how bad drugs are but he won't listen."
And that's what worries the Kate Moss camp. The romance with Doherty—now with new band Baby-shambles, who had a recent Top Ten hit with Killamangiro—began at her 31st birthday party a fortnight ago.
The fling took a nose-dive earlier this week when Kate dumped Pete by text in the early hours after a boozy night out.
But the pair patched things up on Wednesday night, even though Kate confessed that she knows Doherty is too much of a wildman for her to handle.
She told one pal she thought he was "really good looking...and really dangerous".
Kate added: "I know people are saying he's no good for me, but I can't help myself.
"There's just something about him. I keep going back."
Do yourself a favour, Kate—take another look at that picture above.
