ARSENAL are considering a swoop for Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi, according to reports.

But the cash-strapped Gunners will not be able to afford the Algerian’s £27 million release clause until the summer.

Reports in Spain suggest Unai Emery is keen to lure the 27-year-old to the Premier League either this month or at the end of the season.

If he wanted to sign him this month, it would have to be on loan because the club have no spare cash for transfers.

Mandi is under contract until 2021 and Arsenal would need to pay £27m to sign him on a permanent basis.

Emery is in desperate need of defensive reinforcements after it was confirmed Hector Bellerin will be out for the rest of the season.

The Algerian would fit the bill because he can operate at left-back, right-back as well as in central defence.

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was linked to him four years ago, but the move failed to materialise.

Mandi has attracted a wide range of interest this season following his sublime spell of form in Spain’s La Liga.

He has made 27 club appearances this term as Real Betis push to secure a Champions League spot.

Mandi has made 42 appearances for Algeria and he played for his country at the 2014 World Cup finals.

He joined Real Betis in 2016 after spending seven years with Ligue 1 outfit Reims.

The Real Betis defender has attracted a wide range of interest following his sublime spell of form
