New Pictures Brits to spend £8.2billion on leisure activities this year despite Brexit worries – but it won’t be on holidays abroad

BRITS are set to spend more than £8.2 billion on leisure activities this year despite Brexit fears, according to a new study.


However, while leisure spending is up, it’s unlikely to be on holidays and luxury items.

Last year, Brits spent an average of £90 a month on leisure activities, working out to around £4.5 million a year based on Office of National Statistics’ data.


This is expected to jump to £163 a month this year, equating to £8.2billion in total across the UK.


However, spending habits are changing thanks to Brexit.


A study by Alton Towers Resort revealed that 73 per cent of Brits are worried about the outcome of Brexit, with money being their biggest concern.

The majority of people (64 per cent) who responded to the survey said that they were prioritising their budget on activities with loved ones.


However, it’s unlikely to be through holidays abroad. as 75 per cent of people admitting to cutting down on travelling abroad due to money concerns.

The study found Brexit worries affected the younger generation the most, with 84 per cent of 16-29 year olds expressing concern over how it will influence their life decisions this year.


Brexit fears were in the top ten concerns for 2019 on three occasions – the political outcome of Brexit (36 per cent), the impact on personal finances due to Brexit (35 per cent) and the impact on small businesses from Brexit (21 per cent).

Sun Online Travel recently revealed how staycations were on the up because of Brexit.


Several holiday companies have seen a spike in staycation bookings this year.


It comes as the uncertainly around Brexit continues.
