Ever been given a spit of champagne? Don’t fret, it’s not a glob of good aged saliva. It’s just a half pint of champagne! But where the heck did they come up with such terms. Well, the reasons were supposedly lost in history (If someone, knows, please leave a comment!), but most of the big wine bottles have Biblical names.
And here are some of the names of the measurements for wine:
1/2 pint - spit
1/8 gallon - pint
1/4 gallon - quart (a bottle)
2 quarts - magnum
4 quarts - Jeroboam
6 quarts - Rehoboam
8 quarts - Methuselah
12 quarts - Salmanasar
16 quarts - Balthazar
20 quarts - Nebuchadnezzar
