Growing old is not an excuse not to give up bad habits. Just because you treat your body like crap for the best five decades, doesn’t mean that you can continue doing so for the next two or three decades – that is if you get to live that long. Remember that no one is too old (or too young) to learn and to change.
So what if you still feel fine? You won’t feel fine for very long, your body can only accept so much abuse. And as you grow older, it becomes more prone to illness and injury. Remember when your parents stated that their “bodies are not as limber as they used to?” Well, you’re in the same boat pal, so face it! By getting rid of bad habits and starting to adopt healthy ones, you will not only feel fine, you will certainly feel and look better!
Trying the opposite tactic? Saying now that you are too old for exercise? Not an excuse! The good thing about exercise is that you can plan a program that would suit any individual, regardless of age, weight, gender, and illness. The less exercise you get, the more things you get not to do.
Already have diabetes or heart disease? So what? Neither eating whatever you want nor staying immobile, would help you fight that disease. By getting rid of nasty habits, you will be able to control your disease by preventing complications and who knows, it might even turn things about.
Comparing yourself to your father or grandmother who lived to the ripe old age of ninety? Well, think again. Times are different - the air is dirtier, life is more stressful, and the food is less fresh. They might have lived to ninety but how sure are you that it would be the same for you?
