As children, you have always seen Mom as one of your your model. For many girls, you’d sneak into her room and try on her shoes and her makeup, because you wanted to be her. But as you got older, you became matrophobic. And you hate it when people say you’re turning into your mother.
But you’ll never find a person quite like her. And even though you feel like she’s ruining your life, no person has ever cared more for you than your mom. If you’re thinking of working out your relationship with mom, consider these pointers.
Is she really controlling your life without your consent? Have you felt like she’s been running your life for the longest time? When a mom makes comments, the child feels controlled. The child will often react in an angry way and if this continues, both of them will make the other feel hurt and pushed.
Yes, moms have a talent when it comes to nagging and lecturing, but sometimes you just have to listen and let her worry. That’s her job. That’s what she does. You don’t have to do everything she says, but at least give her the time to express her concerns.
Tell her not to criticize you, instead, discuss things as adults. Tell mom to talk to you as an adult, and not as a kid she can push in a corner. Your conversations should be two-way, with both of you giving insights to resolve a problem.
You and mom need to talk. I know, all talks end in arguments with you feeling guilty for telling her off. It’s not always easy, but just like any relationships, an open communication is the best way to bridge a gap. If you’ve been living apart for a long time, you probably don’t know each other anymore and this can easily build a wall between the two of you.
Spend time with her. Go shopping together, play bowling, go for morning walks, be each other’s jogging buddies, and eat your meals together. There’s so much to talk about, and there are always new things you can learn about her because as you get older, you tend to be better friends.
