How to Optimize Your Site for Adsense

Eric Giguere has some excellent advice for getting relevant AdSense ads that particularly relevant to bloggers. He includes two examples that show how just one word can result in different ads being rendered.
Sometimes all it takes is one word or phrase to trigger different ads.
Although Eric’s suggestion that you should change the URL structure of your blog [or website] so it gives AdSense good clues about your content, this is perhaps not specific enough for newbies.
What Eric means here is that you want to have a URL structure that includes keywords rather than just dates or id numbers. A piece of the URL of Eric’s own post is
“/adsense/How-to-Get-Relevant-AdSense-Ads-Especially-For-Bloggers.html”.
I suspect that words like Adsense blogger and blog are all keywords that Eric is targeting.
One of the best pieces I’ve read on URL structure is actually also about Search Engine Optimization. It’s by Sverre Sjøthun: The ultimate guide to make your blog search engine friendly. It also ties in quite nicely with what Eric Giguere is talking about.
