Quick & Easy No-Bake Recipe: Traditional People's Puppy Chow

This quick and easy treat makes a great snack for kids or a fun and easy dessert to whip up for a party or social gathering. Full of chocolate and peanut butter, this sweat and tasty treat will delight adults and kids alike.
This simple, sweet snack is also great during the summer months, when you don’t want to be heating up the house with the oven. A no-bake recipe, you only will need to use your stove top or microwave to whip up a batch of this tasty kid’s treat.
This puppy chow recipe also uses only a few ingredients, including chocolate chips, butter, peanut butter, and powdered sugar, making it a simple and easy baking option.
Makes:
  • About 10 cups
Preparation Time:
  • 15 minutes
Cooking Supplies You Will Need:
  • Saucepan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Mixing bowl
  • Large Rubbermaid container with lid, large Ziploc bag, brown paper sack.
  • 1 baking sheet
  • Wax paper
Ingredients:
  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 1 8 ounce package of milk chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup peanuts
  • 10 cups rice or corn Chex cereal
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

How to Make Delicious No-Bake Chocolate and Peanut Butter People’s Puppy Chow

  1. Combine butter, chocolate chips, vanilla, and peanut butter in sauce pan and melt over low heat, stirring. Stir until thoroughly blended. You also could melt the chocolate, butter, and peanut butter in the microwave using a large microwave, safe bowl. Take off of heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Put 10 cups cereal and 1 cup peanuts into large mixing bowl.
  3. Pour warm butter, chocolate, vanilla, and peanut putter mixture over cereal and peanuts.
  4. Mix until each piece is thoroughly coated.
  5. Put three cups of powdered sugar into large plastic container with lid. Pour coated cereal into large plastic container. Put lid on plastic container. Shake until each piece is evenly coated. You also could use a large Ziploc bag or a brown grocery sack to shake and evenly coat cereal with powdered sugar.
  6. Lay puppy chow out on baking sheet covered with wax paper until hardened. Store in airtight container.

Tips for Making People’s Puppy Chow as a Snack or Treat for Kids

Recruit help from younger chefs when making this easy, no-bake puppy chow recipe. Kids enjoy making puppy chow. Let younger kids shake the bag or container to help evenly coat each piece with powdered sugar. Older kids could also make this simple recipe by themselves, although, melting the ingredients in the microwave would be a better option than melting the ingredients on the stove.
