Spend Quality Time with Kids through Storytelling

Are your kids the type who needs to be told a story before they can be tucked in for the night? Don’t complain. Kids need stories so they can enjoy their imagination. Stories are good for children because it builds character by the values every good story tells.
Unfortunately, some parents’ busy schedules and demanding careers leave no time for story-telling. But if you can make time for it, do so because story-telling also teaches kids how to listen intently.
Check out these guidelines which will improve your skills in story-telling.
Choose good books. You can find a selection online of the best children’s books recommended by professionals. Choose the books according to your children’s ages. You can also ask other parents who are into story-telling to recommend good books.
Create the mood. The best time for story-telling is a few minutes before bedtime. Keep the lights dim and make sure all your kids are comfortable.
Practice your enunciation and voice modulation. Kids love TV because the characters are alive and colorful. If you can, try changing your voice as you read the narrator’s part and the characters’ parts. It could prove to be a big challenge but it’s really fun when you get the hang of it.
Make up your stories as you get better with story-telling. As you tell stories every night, you’ll see that along with your improved skills at voice modulation and enunciation, you’re talent at making spontaneous stories has also improved. Soon you won’t be needing books when story-telling becomes a natural talent.
Use props. Do you have a talent for making masks or do you have some Halloween costumes you can use for a particular story? Surprise your kids with a story complete with props and see how they become more involved in stories which have visuals.
