The dilemma of every new graduate… What do they do after the graduation? When you’re thrown into the jungle of the real world you will have a new reality - gone are the days when you regularly receive your allowance, because your new life and your new goal is to earn, earn, earn for your life as an independent. But how? Some graduates end up bumming around because they don’t know where to start. Before you end up anything like that, here are guides for you to get a job.
If you’re really not into jumping into the job market, then consider taking a break. But don’t think that it will be like spring break that after getting stoned and piss drunk, you can readily jump back into the university, mind you that the next step is real life. Many call this bumming around but for some, they consider this soul searching.
An alternative is to do volunteer work instead of just lazily bumming around. This will give you some exposure to having to keep a working schedule without pinning yourself to a commitment. This would also help you in your little quest for enlightenment.
Enroll in short courses. If you feel that you need to beef up on some skills that they failed to teach you in college, then consider enrolling in short courses. Whether you need communication, accounting, or computer skills, gaining proficiency in any of these would come in handy in any field.
Rethink your ideals and your goals. Now is the perfect time for you to make your goals clearer to yourself. When you were in school, you already knew what you want, but you didn’t know exactly how to get it. So here’s a task for you — get a paper and start making a life map for your immediate future. Do you know what kind of work you want to do? If you’re answer is yes, then lucky you! It takes years for some people to discover what they want in their life. If you know exactly what you want, you can easily gauge your career to the right direction.
Research on the companies which can make you happy. It would be wise for you to know the companies before you make your applications. What do you look for in a job – competitive salary, opportunities for travel? If you know where you should apply, you’re always a step closer to your goal.
