TROUBLED TV beauty Gail Porter called cops after a vicious bust-up with hubby Dan Hipgrave—but has denied being a battered wife.
In an exclusive interview with the News of the World, Gail insisted: "Categorically Dan has never hit me. We had the biggest row we have ever had—but we were both drunk."
She dialled 999, pleading with police to come and calm down her raging husband. When she hung up before giving all her details, police traced the call and a domestic violence unit rushed to the couple's north London home to find Dan had already left.
"When I called the police, it was to give Dan a jolt. The minute I called them I thought, ‘What the hell am I doing?'" said Gail, 33.
The couple, who have a two-year-old daughter Honey, had the furious row back in June. Gail married the Toploader guitarist three years ago. She previously admitted the couple's busy work schedules have caused problems.
Worried
But she said: "Like any couple with a young daughter we have our rows, but no more than a normal couple. It was a really bad row and I said a lot of things that I really regret.
"He is my husband, the father of my daughter and I love him. I don't want anyone thinking badly of him. He is a lovely husband and father."
But the arguments worried her mother Sandra. She became so alarmed when she couldn't reach her daughter earlier this month that she called 999 from her home in Edinburgh.
Again when cops arrived, Dan was not there and Gail convinced them all was well.
Dan said yesterday: "I'm so fed up of everyone else getting involved in me and Gail.
"We are not arguing at all."
