As we become a more computerized society, some people forget how to interact with other people, and one major interaction that seems to be taking a bit of a hit in quality and effectiveness is meetings.
Organizing a group of people, and pushing a topic or topics out in a way that others will absorb the information you are trying to share, or give you the result you desire can be quite difficult, but here are a few tips on how to hold more effective meetings:
1. Circulate an agenda - This gives focus, and also a time table. It also helps people understand the purpose of the meeting, as well as who will be involved.
2. Have a theme - Making sure that everyone knows the theme and thus the topics to be covered is important. It gives them a chance to organize their thoughts and research as well as better focusing feedback and questions.
3. No electronic grazing. Period. - Leave the distracting gadgets off, or in your office, as they not only break other people’s concentration, but show a sign of disrespect.
4. Stay on target - Try not to deviate from the adgenda, as it can cause time problems, as well as creating a situation where others may not need to know any of the information being presented or talked about. If the topic is important enough, than maybe create another meeting at a later date, rather than disrespecting the time of the people at your current meeting.
