The average person usually spends a big portion of her allowance on food. And unlike shopping, spending on food doesn’t really give you that kind of guilt because food is nourishing. Nevertheless, eating right doesn’t have to cost much, if you will just take the time to explore new ways on how you can make your food allowance more in sync with the rest of your budget.
Where do you buy your food? Some people stopped buying at the local farmer’s market because they do not have the usual comforts of supermarkets. But supermarkets usually sell food at higher prices. Visit your market again and compare the price differences.
Go to the market with your list in hand. Don’t you know that you’re bound to overspend if you’re buying without a checklist? If you don’t know what you need, you’ll end up buying a few things you don’t need. The best way to do this is to plan your meals for the whole week so you can list down all the ingredients you should buy. The veggies and other perishables you don’t need yet you end up buying will only rot in your cupboard. That’s already a big waste of hard-earned money.
Check out the bargains first before you head to the regular items. There might be some ingredients you need which are on sale today.
Don’t hoard bargain items. You might think you’re saving up a lot with the discounts but if you’re buying more than what you need, it’s still not working with your budget. The most important thing is to stick to your checklist.
